Position Overview

The primary responsibility of the Driving Instructor is to implement training programs and procedures designed to prepare new Professional Delivery Drivers to perform their job duties safely and efficiently.  This is a skilled position where the Driving Instructor will demonstrate knowledge and practices of truck driving in accordance with all requirements of the applicable Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, including meeting the physical and driver qualification standards of Part 391. The Driving Instructor is responsible for ensuring safe and successful delivery of our products while managing challenging and/or sensitive situations and will contribute to building a positive team spirit that values a strong safety culture.

 

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)


  • All truck driving instructors provide instruction to meet industry demand.

  • Teach regulations and rules required by FMCSR’s and Idaho department of transportation in preparation for CDP and CDL tests (written and driven) to obtain a minimum of a class B CDL.

  • Teach on the job skills that include ELD’s, accident avoidance, reporting procedures, pre-shift and post trip inspections, over-head/under-ground utility dangers, etc.

  • Teach skills and procedures for handling equipment, mix specifications, and loading/unloading of material.

  • Assess student performance, and provide students guidance on performing maneuvers in a variety of conditions including but not limited to high stress, heavy traffic, bad weather, narrow roads, night driving, mechanical failure, etc.

  • Maintain compliance with all company policies, procedures, and SHE handbook.

  • Maintain a positive attitude and be willing to go above and beyond to help new Professional Delivery Drivers develop competence and confidence.

Education/Experience


  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required or equivalent combination of education and experience. 

  • One (1) to two (2) years related experience and/or training.

  • Must have a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and be able to pass a DOT physical and drug screen.

 

Knowledge/Skill Requirements


  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office.

  • Three years professional instructor experience preferred.


  • Excellent customer service skills, ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. 

  • Ability to write clearly and effectively.

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. 

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed, but uninvolved written or oral instructions.

  • Ability to work well with others in a group or one on one setting.
