The Manufacturing Engineering Technician is a hands-on technical position to help mature the production line, conducts FA and is a good production trainer. This role will participate in new product development, assembly and testing of product as well as setup and maintenance of manufacturing stations. This includes prototype development, qualification and trouble-shooting.

  • Contributes to manufacturing high-power diode laser systems.

  • Provides feedback and assists engineering in technical decisions.

  • Responsible for optical alignment and laser testing associated with diode laser packages or modules as well as optimization of such processes. Works from schematics, diagrams, written, and verbal descriptions, layouts or defined plans to perform testing, checkout and trouble-shooting functions.

  • Conducts detailed experimental testing to collect design data or assist in engineering work.

  • Performs operational test and fault isolation on systems and equipment. Assists in determining methods or actions to remedy malfunctions. Assists in the design, construction, and test of test equipment.

  • Assists in creating and uses manufacturing test, development or diagnostic equipment including but not limited to such equipment as oscilloscopes, signal generators and specialized test apparatus.

  • Performs functions associated with all manufacturing operations, including working with engineers in set-up and calibration tasks, as well as performing rework and quality testing related to the production of parts, components, subassemblies and final assemblies.

  • Uses sophisticated programs to collect and evaluate operating data to conduct on-line adjustments of products. Determines and may assist in developing methods and procedures to control or modify the manufacturing process.

  • Develops and documents assembly processes with assistance from engineering team.

  • Assist with maintaining clean room operations under direction of management.




Education and Work Experience:


  • Associates degree in a technical field.

  • At least 7+ years of experience in technical optics

  • At least 7+ years of hands-on experience with test/lab equipment, such as chillers, power supplies, oscilloscope, spectrum analyzers, power meters, signal acquisition equipment, multi meter, etc.

  • Previous experience using Microsoft office products, particularly Microsoft Excel

  • Good dexterity of handling delicate product and instruments

  • Demonstrated problem-solving and analysis skills

  • Previous experience working effectively in a collaborative team environment

  • Demonstrated flexibility - ability to change task or plan quickly

  • Ability to communicate and understand highly technical verbal and written communications

  • Experience with electrical circuits/soldering

  • Familiarity with machine shop tools and metal-working

  • Previous experience with diode lasers
