Application Engineer

Reporting to: Application Engineering Manager

The SKF Automotive Market (AM) has global responsibility for business development, product and process development, manufacturing and sales on wheel end, powertrain, suspension and steering applications, providing original equipment parts for the passenger and commercial vehicle industry.
Responsibilities:
Independently manage and grow relationship with OEM and tier customer engineering/technical teams acting as front-line bearing expert.
Manage and document engineering activities from the start of business opportunity until end of production, including specification phase, prototype phase, industrialization phase, series production phase and warranty phase.
Actively identify and pursue new bearing business opportunities by understanding customer concerns and evolving market needs.
Prepare and execute design verification and process validation test plans using global testing resources.
Promote and emphasize first-time quality by offering critical assessment of product or processes and employ continuous improvement activities such as lessons learned, read across, DfSS, lean thinking, etc
Work in coordination with design and product engineering teams to facilitate DFMEA and discuss the same with customer on a specific project or product line
Identify and analyze the technical details of customer's requirements and communicate the parameters clearly and accurately to the SKF organization.
Perform application calculations and reviews at bearing and systems levels.
Create application engineering proposals and customized solutions according to customer requirements and present to customer in a clear and effective manner.
Coordinate activities with the sales organization, contribute to opportunity generation and support the development of value-added solutions.
Effectively interpret, analyze and verify results from (application) engineering software systems to create value for customers.
Participate in the execution of Root Cause Analysis of the customers' application issues and contribute to the issue resolution.
Participate and contribute to internal and external trainings, assist with the development of training material
Represent SKF and our products and services to our customers and institutions through visits, presentations, seminars, and industry events.
To contribute substantially in the development and implementation of customized solutions, customer related projects and other unique offerings and to work with customer, for new development projects
To follow management instructions and procedures; to report Environment Health and Safety (EHS) risks and EHS related incidents; to follow quality specifications and requirements, and identify quality risks and opportunities for improvement
Qualifications:
A bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent.
3-5 years demonstrated experience in the automotive industry, specifically in bearing design, application, and calculation tools.
Experience with passenger and commercial vehicles is preferred for wheel bearings (Chassis and Suspension)
Excellent interpersonal, problem solving and decision-making skills.
Dependable, reliable, and self-motivated.
Candidate demonstrates the ability to relentlessly pursue business opportunities.
Excellent communication skills
Fluent in English
The following are not required, but will offer a distinct advantage:
Experience with electric vehicle bearing design.
Automotive testing experience.
Bearing steels, lubricants, and heat treatment selection for bearing applications.
Understanding of multi-body simulation software.
Firsthand work experience with bearing manufacturing processes.
The successful candidate would display a high amount of initiative. It is expected local travel up to 40% of the time with some international travel required.
