Summary: Responsible for planning, directing, leading, and facilitating lean manufacturing and continuous improvement throughout the organization, working with management and employees to achieve these goals. As a key member of the Vapor Bus International team, you will participate in operational planning to maximize company profits through a coordinated effort of driving continuous improvement processes throughout the organization.



Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.


  • Serve as plant administrator for the direction and coordination of quality performance system activities and initiatives.

  • Lead and execute quality performance Summits and Kaizen events.

  • Serve as lean culture champion throughout the organization.

  • Create annual quality performance plans to achieve established goals and strategic objectives.

  • Maintain required corporate performance reporting requirements quality performance systems website.

  • Execute corporate goals for process improvements at assigned business units.

  • Review and analysis of space requirements, and workflow, and designs layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency.

  • Ensure entire team staff are properly trained, resourced, supplied and managed to attain strategic objectives.

  • Execute data mining and evaluation pertinent to quality process enhancement related to Value Stream metrics.

  • Conduct training of quality performance systems and programs, as needed.

  • Manage the measurement of quality performance systems throughout the organization, track trends and drive quality improvement.

  • Work with operations and engineering personnel on ways to improve manufacturing capabilities and quality

  • Monitor and manage key metrics pertaining to manufacturing operations and product performance.

  • Recommend changes and ways to improve manufacturing processes.

  • Work with assigned business units to improve processes, driving saving initiatives.

  • Mentor others in Lean, Six Sigma Problem Solving and Continuous Improvement methodologies") to become future quality performance leaders in the corporation.

  • Plan equipment layouts, workflow.

  • Plan and oversee training programs to promote corporate quality performance goals and initiatives.

  • Communicate with senior management regarding issues with manufacturing operations.

  • Recommend new equipment and tooling at operations.

  • Recommend and assist manufacturing operations and engineering during new product phase from conception to production.

  • Recommend tool and design changes to increase overall manufacturing efficiency.

  • Must develop a complete and thorough understanding of Wabtec Bus Solutions business products.

  • Collaborates with senior management and general managers on new manufacturing processes.

  • Work with Human Resources to establish training guidelines.

  • Travel will be required.


Qualifications:

  • Extensive experience developing and maintaining a lean culture, Domestic and global manufacturing background.


  • Extensive background with various lean manufacturing tools and concepts such as Kaizen, 5S, value stream mapping, pull systems, Cellular Manufacturing, SMED, 6-Sigma, Quality tools standard work, Kanban, Visual Controls, Mistake Proofing, TPM and statistical engineering

  • Proven skills and ability to mentor and train the work force

  • Become the ambassador for Lean learning for the organization.

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.

  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.

  • Must be hands on (not a consulting type role)


Education/Experience:



  • BS degree in Manufacturing/Industrial/Mechanical Engineering or related field required, with an MS or MBA desired.

  • 10 years solid experience in manufacturing environment working with continuous improvement and lean manufacturing practices.


Certificates and Licenses:



Black Belt (or Green Belt with solid Manufacturing experience) certification.
