Summary/Objective:

Lippert is developing a new digital service for the RV community and we are looking for an experienced, senior-level technical writer who is passionate about creating accessible, consumer-friendly materials to improve the most challenging parts of the RV experience. This writer will be a lead contributor to this new platform as well as expected to produce technical documentation as needed for all aspects of the Technical Publications team.

Develops, writes, and edits material for manuals, instruction, PCN, PIN, other product notices, catalogs, and related technical and administrative publications concerned with work methods and procedures, and installations, operation, and maintenance of machinery, equipment, and parts. Creates how-tos, guides, and video scripts for technical, digital experiences. Comfortable writing for different media and audiences with a deep empathy and understanding for when and how to tailor communications to engineers, technicians, and consumers. Receives additional assignments/all special projects from technical publications manager/director and other managers within the company.

To be successful, you will need to be part technical writer and part consumer advocate. Identify where a consumer will need help and translate complex materials into consumer-friendly language and clear steps. You should also be able to maintain the tone, consistency, and quality of content by following established editorial, SEO, and legal guidelines and come equipped with your own knowledge of industry best practices.

Essential Functions:

  • Organizes material and creates accessible documentation that is helpful, easy to understand, and appropriate for different digital devices as assigned. Adheres to set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology

  • Writes step-by-step tutorials and outlines for short videos that cover different product topics such as Installation; Preventative Maintenance; Troubleshooting; Basic Repairs; and Operation

  • Collaborates with experts on different RV systems to enable their successful creation of content

  • Assists non-technical content teams in identifying content gaps and opportunities for technical learning

  • Observes production, developmental, and experimental activities to determine operating procedure and detail

  • Reviews manufacturer's and trade catalogs, drawings and other data relative to operation, maintenance, and service of equipment/ parts

  • Reviews published materials (to also include videos, labels, and webpages) and recommends revisions or change in scope, format, content, and methods of reproduction and binding

  • May write articles, and public or employee relations releases

  • May maintain records and files of work and revisions

  • May select photographs, drawings, sketches, diagrams, and charts to illustrate material and increase users' understanding

  • May edit, proofread, standardize, or make changes to material prepared by other writers or plant personnel and contracted RV subject matter experts

  • Must travel locally to various plants

Working Conditions:


  • Primarily working indoors, office environment.

  • May sit for several hours at a time.

  • Prolonged exposure to computer screens.

  • Repetitive use of hands to operate computers, printers, and copiers.

Required Education and Experience:


  • Strong technical aptitude, preferably in LCI parts and RV applications

  • Demonstrated ability to translate highly technical information, such as descriptions of Coach parts/ equipment, into plain language, such as FAQs, product demos, tutorials, or other related communications

  • Ability to utilize all available resources including co-workers

  • Ability to maintain a professional demeanor and positive attitude at all times

  • Demonstrate experience in sequential processing and utilizing multiple software programs

  • Ability to assess and evaluate the work of technicians

  • Ability to adhere to company policies and procedures

  • Ability to reflect LCI core values in both customer interaction and the interaction of co-workers

  • Experience with instructional design and/or education technology is a plus

Supervisory Responsibility:

This role does not have any supervisory responsibility upon hiring.

Physical Demands:

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time salary position, and hours/days of work are decided by production schedules and your reporting manager.
