Job Summary

To support our extraordinary teams who build great products and contribute to our growth, we’re looking to add a Senior Mold Design Engineer located in Manchester, CT.

Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Senior Mold Design Engineer role involves designing and developing different types of products for Flex and its customers to support injection molding manufacturing.

What a typical day looks like:


  • Work with tooling engineers to ensure manufacturability of Injection molds and ability to quickly resolve design conflicts   


  • Create mold design from concept to fully tolerance and detailed mold design


  • Identify all molded part areas that are under-cut and develop their respective tooling actions as required


  • Develop tooling run-off / parting-lines


  • Analyzes product designs for manufacturing feasibility and makes improvement recommendations.


  • Utilize DFM for all mold designs.


  • Collaborates in a team environment with Tooling Engineers, Process Engineers, Production personnel, toolmakers, CNC programmers and various vendors to optimize tool design per suggestions of above team members.


  • Follows established standards and procedures including modeling techniques, file storage procedures and training in accordance with company procedures.


The experience we’re looking to add to our team:


  • 5 years of experience designing high cavitation plastic injection molds


  • Knowledge of solid modeling utilizing Siemens NX, SolidWorks, or equivalent 3D software


  • Mold design experience in the Medical, Packaging, and Consumer goods Industries


  • Knowledge of plastics and processing PE, PP, HIPPS, and Engineering grades of resins used for injection molding


  • Thorough understanding of part design as related to mold designs and manufacturability.  Emphasis on gating effects, plastic flow within a mold


  • Must have knowledge of hot runner systems


  • Must have excellent interpersonal, communication (verbal & written), and customer service skills


  • Must have strong computer skills
