Job Summary:

Thales Navigation And non-radar Surveillance (NAS) business segment, part of the Thales Land and Air Systems Global Business Unit, architects solutions used by two-thirds of all planes worldwide to take off and land safely. Our Ground Navigation portfolio offers a complete range of products, which includes the latest generation of ILS, DME, VOR and TACAN systems. With more than 7,000 Navigation aids and landing systems installed worldwide in 172 countries, we are world leaders in the Navaids market. The second product line of NAS is Non Radar Surveillance (NRS) with an installed base of more than 2.200 ADS-B and MLAT ground stations.

In this role, the primary focus of the Configuration Manager (CM) is to provide leadership & operational management of the Configuration Management discipline for the NAS Projects and Products in Overland Park, Kansas, USA.

The Configuration Manager will ensure the establishment, the integrity, the consistency and the change control of the Projects and Products System, Hardware & Software configuration. It allows the Project/Product teams to have identified and validated baselines / configuration status for all milestones of project lifecycle.

Job Responsibility:


  • Participate to the contractual requirements analysis for Configuration Management (in the bid and project phases)

  • Tailor the Organization Configuration Management system and customer requirements for the project into a Configuration Management Plan, implement and ensure adherence to the provisions of the Configuration Management Plan

  • Ensure the application of Configuration Management requirements (SOW, etc.) with subcontractors and suppliers

  • Participate with Engineering in the establishment of the Breakdown Structures (Configuration Identification) and selection of the Configuration Items

  • Participate in the design phase reviews (PDR, CDR, etc.)

  • Write and process Engineering Change Request (ECR)/Notice (ECN) in cooperation with Engineering and the rest of NAS organization to provide a CM compatible and compliant resolution to the change request

  • Organize and steer the Configuration Control Board (CCB) with NAS sister units (Italy, Germany) and Local production US Thales entity (TDSI), including pre and post CCB activities (e.g. update corresponding ERP)

  • Manage the production and change control of the requirements and design documentations for the establishment of the Functional, Allocated and Product Configuration Baselines (FBL, ABL, PBL) for the Project/Product

  • Conduct Functional and Physical Configuration Audits (FCA, PCA) for the Project/Product, including subsystems Audits

  • Assign and manage Part numbers assignment for Thales designed parts or request COTS part numbers from the Thales Global Services entity

  • Create & maintain a configuration management plan & product breakdown in line with the Solution Engineering Management Plan

  • Control configuration management during process gates

  • Support of the different NAS teams to follow the configuration management plan

  • Synchronize configuration framework with Thales partners and our sub-suppliers

  • Report on different configuration status for deliveries

  • Liaise with our customers configuration and project representatives (e.g. ECR/ECN submission)

Minimum Requirements:


  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Project Management or related field of study with  4+ years of relevant experience or a Master’s degree with 0-2+ years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Experience with Configuration and Change Management processes, technique, tools, related assignments (System, Hardware, Software), and project related work

  • Good planning skills,

  • Good written and verbal communication skills to allow effective communication with both technical and non-technical teams,

  • Experience in a leadership role, as well as being a team player, with strong communication skills and the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels,

  • Experience in PLM tools, Windchill experience highly preferable, Palma (Thales customized Windchill), Team Center and JIRA (problem reporting) experience is a plus,

  • Experience in System Engineering activities and design life cycle, An open mind-set, with a sharing and team-oriented approach,

  • Quality minded, with focus on data quality, process, and version control

  • Proficient in Microsoft office, Word, Excel,

  • The role will require travel for approximately 10% of the time.

Must be a US Person as defined in applicable law

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to speak additional languages such as Italian, French, or German is a benefit

Travel & Schedule:


  • Schedule: -Early mornings preferable due to European colleagues, +7h)

  • Travel: Anticipated to be less than 10% annually
