About the Position

VHB's growing Bedford, NH office is seeking an experienced Water Resources Project Engineer with strong hydraulics/hydrology experience to join our Environmental team. This is an opportunity for an experienced water resources professional to join a diverse Environmental group. In this position you will assist our clients with developing strategic, cost-effective and forward-thinking solutions to their water resource, ecological restoration, stormwater design, transportation, and environmental challenges. You will have an opportunity to work on a wide variety of projects, ranging from site to watershed scale. Projects may include, hydraulic bridge modeling, dam removals, stream restorations, flood mitigation and management, and stormwater design and permitting.

VHB's Bedford office is a dynamic growing office with a variety of passionate engineers, scientists, planners, and designers who provide a broad range of engineering and environmental services to public and private clients in the transportation, real estate, institutional, and energy industries, as well as federal, state, and local governments. We provide water resource related services involving culvert design, floodplain permitting and modeling, permitting, stormwater master planning, water quality monitoring, dam removal, and the design of stormwater measures.

Responsibilities


  • Working within a team of professionals in developing design engineering plans, reports and specifications for a multitude of water resources design projects

  • Working on multi-disciplinary projects with hydrologic, hydraulic, bridge/culvert, or natural system design focus including interaction with staff and clients

  • Assist with preparing hydrologic and hydraulic studies to support floodplain management, culvert and bridge design, stream restoration design and dam removal feasibility and design

  • Prepare technical reports, plans and specifications, and cost estimates

  • Visit sites during design and provide intermittent construction oversight

  • Attend meetings with clients, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders

Qualifications


  • BS degree in Civil/Environmental/Water Resources Engineering or related discipline

  • 3+ years of professional water resources engineering experience

  • EIT preferred, on PE track

  • Experience in stream restoration, fluvial geomorphology/natural channel design, bridge scour calculations, and countermeasure design is highly desirable

  • Experience preparing design plans & specifications, and preparing technical reports

  • Experience with relevant software including AutoCAD, MicroStation, ArcGIS is preferred

  • Experience with hydrologic/hydraulic software including HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, HY-8, HydroCAD, or SRH-2D is preferred
