The Cost Engineer will partner with key stakeholders to monitor utility scale project costs against forecast to ensure projects are completed within budget.

Job Description:

Position Responsibilities and Duties:


  • Enter cost data by day or month for Labor and Equipment categories

  • Use internal project management/accounting software to obtain actual costs (CMIC)

  • Analyze actual project costs compared to initial budget; reforecasting as necessary

  • Update project team on actual cost compared to budget and assist with remediation plan

  • Create initial labor and equipment budgets based on historical data and coordination with team

  • Collaborate with Project Manager on monthly cost reporting and provide forecast data

  • Attend staff meetings to stay updated on project progress and schedule

  • Communicate with Superintendent to monitor changes in manpower to ensure accurate projections

  • Create and/or modify system processes for continuous improvement

  • Work with internal software developers to improve labor tracking capabilities

  • Contribute to development of Cost Engineer role within company

  • Review and analyze data provided by third-party labor companies

  • Compare preliminary reports with invoices and communicate inaccuracies

  • Communicate with third-party labor account manager for additional information as needed

Objectives or Goals to Measure Performance:

  • Set up realistic cost budgets to understand risk or opportunities during initial budget reconciliation

Minimum Skills or Experience Requirements:


  • Bachelor’s degree preferred

  • 3 years of relevant professional work experience

  • Strong communication skills, including virtual conferencing

  • Advanced experience in Microsoft Excel

  • Data driven and analytical mindset

  • Detail-oriented, motivated self-starter

  • Heavy travel requirements, including extended presence on remote jobsites
