Job Description:

The Quality Assurance Specialist willassist the Quality Manager in the oversight of quality programs in a coffee manufacturing facility to assure standards and regulatory requirements are met. Works with other department members to continually look for ways to develop/improve our Quality Assurance programs and procedures. Serves as a potential lead for Quality Technician(s) conducting analytical testing and routine production verifications.



Responsibilities

  • Actively engaged support in planning, defining and directing the site auditing control program to ensure compliance to all procedures, and policies, GMP standards, FBC requirements, and regulatory, federal and local laws.
  • Develop and execute new quality systems/programs across a production facility.
  • Provide Quality support/resources for SKU launches in a processing facility.
  • Train, mentor and lead site QA and Production team to insure program goals are met.
  • Provide support to site QMS program owners.
  • Monitor and maintain plant QMS program by complying with SQF standards. Facilitate and co-lead site cross-functional QCMS Team and participate with corporate to insure successful certification for site.
  • Lead and train the internal Traceability team ensuring written compliance with Incident Management and audit requirements.
  • Supports annual verification of all HACCP plans or when required due to project changes.
  • Ensure all Specification/KPI/QMS/SQF plans are maintained and updated/approved as required. Co-lead plant bi-annual validations.
  • Support all internal and external inspections/regulatory visits, audit preparation activities and complete necessary reports/postings.
  • Perform follow-ups to non-conformances found and provide responses as appropriate. Review and approve minor change requests.
  • Support QM functions and lead line Quality Validations.
  • Train on proper inspection procedure practices. Assist in ensuring facility is inspection-ready at all times.
  • Take appropriate steps to assure project startups meet food safety requirements.
  • Work with Distribution Warehouse Management on any Quality concerns/initiatives. Also, assists with product dispositions and security items.
  • Support and follow proper plant safety & sustainability policies and procedures.
  • Support for Hold/Release documentation and dispositioning of products.
  • Quality Data Steward role and maintaining compliance.
  • Responsible for maintaining/validating/continuous improvement of all laboratory testing and equipment.
  • Facilitate plant sanitation. Coach and audit production on sanitation practices.
  • Direct Sanitation crew to ensure facility cleaning is completed. Maintain facility cleaning logs to ensure cleaning routines stay on track and verified. Create plans to continuously drive improvement and to mitigate any gaps.
  • Provide technical assistance to Production, Purchasing, Marketing, and Sales
  • Demonstrate professionalism and dedication towards company.
  • Support and/or lead Quality functions as directed by the Quality Manager and Sr. Regulatory Manager.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.





Qualifications




Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Food Science or equivalent degree. HACCP and SGF practitioner certification highly desired.
  • 2+ years in a coordinator or lead experience in a quality and/or sanitation role or 2-5 years of experience in operations/quality/technical (R/D) for dry processes (i.e. Nuts, Coffee, Tea, Spices) a plus.


Personal and Professional Skill Sets

  • Able to attend Initial offsite training requiring travel to Portland, OR and/or Houston, TX if required.
  • Knowledge of statistical processes, quality systems, procedures, & prerequisite programs helpful.
  • Able to handle multiple assignments, develop work plans, & prioritize projects.
  • Possess a positive focus toward solutions with emphasis on preventative pro-active measures and team-building.
  • Computer software proficiency in Microsoft Office, as well as the ability to learn additional onsite programs.
  • Must be able to work any required overtime if scheduled.
  • Ability to effectively investigate and devise corrective actions.
