Normal Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am to 4:45pm; early morning/nights/weekends as needed

Job Summary: The Director of Event and Space Management is responsible for managing multiple event spaces and overseeing the planning, strategy, and implementation for Division/College large-scale events and programs to enhance the image and stature of The University of Alabama. Manages the budget and all details for the events, coordinating with other offices and staff as necessary to ensure events meet UA standards of excellence and protocol. Supervises other events coordinators or event staff.



Additional Department Summary: The Special Events and Operations Director for the Culverhouse College of Business provides strategic guidance, oversight and coordination for over 300 events on an annual basis and use of events spaces for the College. This includes events for donor recognition, board meetings, the statewide Alabama Business Hall of Fame and the capital campaign. This position oversees a budget of over $600,000 and works with outside vendors and oversees all contracts with vendors. This position must have the communication skills to collaborate within the College with department heads, faculty and staff, within the University with administrators and campus partners and external partners such as alumni, corporations, recruiters and donors. This position oversees the event spaces for all Culverhouse College of Business Buildings and works with faculty, staff and administrators inside and outside the College to organize events. Additionally, this position will oversee Capital Campaign events for the College including but not limited to VIP donor receptions, ribbon cuttings, grand openings, scholarship recognition, gift announcements, etc. This position also oversees the state wide induction ceremony for the Alabama Business Hall of Fame with over 500 attendees from across the state and will also work with the Executive Director of External Relations as the liaison to the College's Board of Visitors and plan the two meetings a year as well as help with special requests throughout the year. This position will supervise the event coordinator in Alumni & Corporate Relations but will also advise and oversee the staff who execute events in the academic departments, career center, Manderson Graduate School, etc. For all of these responsibilities, the position requires great attention to detail, excellent organizational skills and interpersonal skills. This position requires travel.



Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and (5) years of event management experience; OR Master's degree and three (3) years of event management experience. Must have valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 21 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report that is in compliance with University policies.



Skills and Knowledge: A strong understanding of strategic thinking and planning that can be applied to the large range of external relations events in which the College is engaged. High energy level and ability to initiate new projects and collaborate with internal and external partners. Ability to coordinate and communicate effectively across a complex organization. Excellent oral and written communications skills. Strong organizations skills. Demonstrated experience working university events - unveilings, announcements, groundbreakings, ribbon cuttings, receptions, dinners, large ceremonies and board meetings. Ability to self-start and work with little supervision. Financial and budgeting management skills. Working knowledge of CRM, presentation and event software.



Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in public relations, marketing, business or event planning. At least (5) years of experience executing high level events and higher education.
