Job Description

The Director of Inclusive Education and Teaching Support is responsible for assigning $3.5 million worth of TA, grader, and UCA support for the College of Information & Computer Sciences (CICS) each year, and overseeing the performance of those students. They provide regular feedback, training, and coaching to enhance CICS' overall teaching quality. Topics covered with the TAs, graders, and Undergraduate Course Assistants (UCAs) include time and classroom management, balancing workload, inclusive tutoring and communication, and managing other course staff, as well as how to promote an inclusive and supportive environment for all students (majors and non-majors alike). The Director is responsible for coordinating CICS' first year seminar program, Residential Academic Programs (RAPs), and summer pre-college programs, as well as mentor programs for graduate and undergraduate students. In conjunction with the Graduate Programs Manager, the Director serves as a non-supervising advisor for PhD students, giving them opportunities to discuss advisor relationships, career goals, life, etc. Finally, the Director supports the diversification of our graduate programs by reading and prioritizing applications from female and underrepresented minorities (URM) for the admissions committee.




Requirements



  • Master's degree in Teaching, Education, Computer Science, Academic Advising, or a related field and three (3) years of related experience.
  • Experience teaching at the high school level or higher.Demonstrated commitment to integrating principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion into teaching development programming.Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively, and create and maintain harmonious relationships with a diverse population of staff, faculty, students, and on-campus constituents. Strong commitment to, and understanding of, diversity and inclusion.Experience working with individuals from historically marginalized groups. Demonstrated success in building relationships and a strong sense of community. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to write concisely, express thoughts clearly, and develop ideas in a logical sequence. Ability to create professional-quality training materials and presentations that are creative and effective. Ability to train, or make effective presentations to groups of various sizes.Independent initiative. Must have the ability to stay on task and work productively with a minimum amount of supervision or guidance. Willingness to take on a variety of tasks related to our teaching mission and the strategic goals of the College. The ability to adapt and work effectively as the College grows.Strong organizational skills and attention to detail with the ability to complete assignments in a timely manner, balancing the demands of concurrent and potentially competing projects.Ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain confidentiality. The ability to think through problems, organize and seek out data/information, identify key factors and underlying causes, and generate solutions.Knowledge of EEO and other diversity related laws.   • Degree in Computer Science or closely related STEM field preferred.

  • Experience teaching computer science courses preferred.

  • Experience teaching in higher education preferred.

  • Demonstrated and proven track record of developing and implementing a company-/college-/department-wide diversity retention strategy preferred.





Additional Information


M-F 8:30am-5pm


May be required to work occasional nights or weekends.
