Position Details:



Summary of Duties:


Provides clinical skills guidance to prelicensure nursing students in the clinical performance laboratory. Preceptors provide basic skills instruction and assessment of critical thinking and psychomotor skills development needed to intervene safely and competently in the clinical care of individuals and families.




Essential Duties:



Laboratory Instruction - 50%



  • Schedules, prepares, and leads all undergraduate skills groups.

  • Directs student skills development, assuring integration of theory with psychomotor performance.

  • Assesses students' skills practice and provides guidance to develop competency. Requires students to apply assessment, adaptation and problem-solving in order to foster critical thinking.

  • Promotes a safe and supportive environment for learning.

  • Consults with students in selection of materials for teaching and community service projects.



Laboratory and Equipment Maintenance - 15%



  • Uses and maintains complex medical equipment competently.

  • Maintains clean and safe lab environment for optimal learning.

  • Cleans, repackages, and re-purposes lab supplies.

  • Manages lab schedule and reservation system.



Skills Practice Education Maintenance - 15%



  • Utilizes current research findings and standards of practice in student skills development.

  • Updates and maintains computerized learning management system, including modules designed for skills development.



Faculty Assistance - 10%



  • Selects and prepares equipment and supplies for undergraduate and graduate faculty.

  • Provides assistance to undergraduate and graduate faculty regarding clinical skill procedures, current products, equipment, and available resources.



Simulation - 5%



  • Communicates with simulation team to maintain consistency of skills performance.

  • Coordinates lab and simulation schedules.

  • Assists when needed to include setup, clean up, and running of simulations.

  • Maintains basic working knowledge of various simulation manikins.



Other - 5%



  • Participate in technical training; attend conferences as directed to stay current clinical skills development, learning platforms, and digital educational materials.

  • Perform other job-related duties as needed.





Required Qualifications:


Bachelor's degree in a related field and three (3) years experience directly relating to the duties and responsibilities specified.




Additional Requirements:



  • Bachelor's degree in nursing and three (3) years experience directly relating to the duties and responsibilities specified.

  • Currently licensed as Registered Nurse in State of Washington, or ability to obtain licensure by time of hire.





Preferred Qualifications:



  • One year acute care experience.

  • Experience teaching or precepting.

  • Demonstrated ability to work collegially and collaboratively with diverse internal and external constituencies.
