We are currently looking for a Director of Corporate Communications and Community Engagement based in our corporate office in Winston-Salem NC. This position reports to the SVP, Corporate Affairs and Communications. The selected candidate will be an innovative and creative leader with demonstrated experience directing, managing and executing large scale external and internal communication plans and initiatives.

Working closely with the SVP, other members of the communications team and the company's leaders, the Director of Corporate Communications and Community Engagement, will plan, support, create and execute communications plans and global programs and initiatives associated with sustainability, business strategy, thought leadership and general global external communications designed to build the reputation of HanesBrands among a wide span of stakeholders.

The selected candidate will also play a key role in working with community partners, helping to build programs and partnerships and to communicate HBI's efforts to make a positive difference in its communities. This position will also play an important role in HBI's internal communications, ensuring that sustainability and community messages are communicated to the company's global associates. The primary responsibilities for this role will include but not be limited to:

  • Strategically and creatively tell HanesBrands story through a variety of external channels.

  • Support external communications associated with the company's Full Potential business plan.

  • Write a variety of materials including executive leadership communications, ghost writing, speech writing, press releases, presentations, and social media.

  • Assist in positioning HanesBrands as an industry leader in sustainability, as the company pursues ambitious goals that will improve the lives of people, protect the planet and produce eco-friendly product

  • Help conceive and building community partnerships with a wide range of local, national and global organizations; Serve as a key contact for community organizations

  • Handle media inquiries and set up proactive media campaigns around sustainability, executive thought leadership and community engagement.

  • Handle and/or prep others to serve as spokespeople for media inquiries associated with assigned programs.

  • Ability to assess applicable trends, traditional and non-traditional media and overall external landscape to identify and leverage external communications opportunities.


  • Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Journalism, Business and/or relevant advanced degree in Marketing Communications or related field required.

  • 10+ years of experience required, preferably developing and executing corporate, brand and/or external communications.

  • Excellent writing and editing skills, along with extensive knowledge of AP Style. Equally strong oral/presentation skills.

  • Experience in producing and managing external communications, preferably in a consumer-products company or similar corporate setting. Prior role as a company spokesperson a plus.

  • Proven track record working with media and outside agencies supporting external communications efforts, including prepping others for interviews.

  • Demonstrated writing-intensive responsibilities for a wide range of channels, requiring strong storytelling skills, sound understanding of positioning/appropriate tone of voice and flexible style.

  • Ability to quickly understand business goals/programs, effectively manage myriad messages and develop powerful, easily understood materials.

  • Build and develop innovative ways to communicate with external audiences.

  • People leader with experience managing a communications team and prioritizing work assignments across the team while meeting deadlines and work effectively in a team setting.

  • Must be able to prioritize and work under pressure. Must be flexible and able to adjust quickly to changing needs of the organization.

  • Proven experience and the ability to exercise a high degree of initiative, confidentiality and good judgment is required.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to quickly build effective working relationships with individuals in a variety of business functions and levels within the company.

  • Strong organization skills, detail orientation and efficient follow-up processes.
