The Training and Education Consultant works under the direction of the Pain Therapies Sr. Education/Training Manager. In this role you will be responsible for Pain Therapies training including the design and execution of business acumen and selling clinics for new and experienced Pain and Interventional field representatives, serve as member of product launch teams, and support new hire training sales training classes. This senior level consultant will partner with faculty, business leaders and medical education/sales training management to independently drive the training strategy, implement new training practices with expertise while leading across matrixed stakeholder partners. In addition, you will be responsible for owning and developing the learning pathway and the creation of curriculum to ensure field sales and clinical teams are competent in business acumen and selling skills.

A Day in the Life


  • Strongly influence the design of new product launch education and training plans based on business strategy with a significant focus on functional results
  • Design and execute creative and engaging, sales focused training programs that are targeted, purposeful, and increase knowledge and skills
  • Maintain key opinion leader relationships with special emphasis on identifying and retaining clinician faculty of the highest quality, integrity and effectiveness for sales training
  • Apply Adult Learning Theory and design principles (ADDIE) for all learning and development projects.
  • Ensure timely updates to the course curricula to reflect changes in product offerings and market demands.
  • Lead and execute new hire and advanced field training courses for all Pain and Interventional Therapy products and therapies, including SCS, TDD, RFA, VCF and OsteoCool
  • Frequently provide guidance, coaching and training to other sales training and medical education team members
  • Motivate, influence and lead cross-functional teams to achieve common goals and objectives. Anticipate, identify and resolve high-level problems associated with completing projects and executing programs
  • Drive innovative training and education methods across digital and virtual platforms
  • Collaborate with cross functional groups (Product Marketing, Sales, Product Development, Services, Legal, Quality, and Regulatory) to create training programs, curricula, course materials and measurements that support business unit strategies and are compliant with regulatory, quality systems, and Business Conduct Standards.
  • Stay abreast of training and development industry research, (e.g. learning theory, motivation theory), and new methods and techniques.
  • Demonstrate training effectiveness through systematic program evaluation and continuous improvement strategy.
  • Work collaboratively with the sales training and medical education partners across Pain Therapies to develop new processes, quality standards and increase efficiency of the team.
  • Develop strong and ongoing relationships with sales, marketing and clinician partners by attending education programs, society and congress events.
  • Develop and utilize network of professionals to enhance delivery effectiveness of therapy sales continuum.
  • Maintain a high level of competency in disease management, and Medtronic device therapy application and related systems through continuous learning (i.e. seminars, self-study, workshops, literature review, etc.)
  • Exhibit strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Exhibit strong time management and project management skills.
  • Be flexible and able to adapt to changing requirements and priorities.
  • The individual filling this position will be expected to obtain any ongoing education necessary to maintain a cutting-edge education and training curriculum.
  • Travel requirement: up to 50%

Must Have: Minimum Requirements


  • Bachelors degree required
  • Requires a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in medical device sales, marketing or training with a Bachelors degree, or advanced degree with a minimum of 8 years'.

Nice to Have

  • Medical industry experience.
  • 5+ years of experience working with Pain Medicine, Neurosurgery, Neurology or other physicians.
  • Excellent skills in application of the ADDIE model for instructor led and virtual training
  • Multi-lingual speaking and writing a plus
  • Experience with design, delivery, and evaluation of education across various digital and virtual platforms
  • Proficient in the use of PC software applications including Microsoft Windows, Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent writing, presentation and communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
