Strategic Material Planner

Job Description

The Strategic Material Planner is responsible for driving finishing supply or raw material plans, while achieving customer service objectives at the lowest possible cost.  This role provides direction to production schedulers and material planners in support of changing business plans and stocking strategies.  This role serves as a collaborative liaison for driving process improvement across production sites, staff/HQ, and vendor teams.

Key Responsibilities:

•Manage finishing supply or raw material plans that support the needs of their assigned business, while achieving customer service objectives at the lowest total delivered cost.

•Partner with mid-term planners, production schedulers, and material planners to support changing business needs and material changes.

•Lead efforts to minimize material obsolescence in collaboration with Operations, Marketing, Planning, and Packaging.

•Provide long-term forecasts to vendors and act as a liaison between tactical schedulers, material planners, strategic planning, procurement, and the vendor.

•Work with vendors to coordinate schedules and establish priorities to prevent supply constraints.

•Maintain accurate recipe/BOM data for materials in SAP, ensuring data integrity for planning

•Lead problem-solving, process improvements, and various projects across production sites, staff/HQ, and vendor teams.

•Partner with mill operations to identify waste, delay, and grade change opportunities to increase productivity

Qualifications:

•Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, Business, or related field

•3+ years of experience in Logistics, Planning, or Operations at a site or HQ level

•Experience utilizing an Enterprise Resource Planning system (SAP or similar)

•Demonstrated ability to organize resources and analyze alternatives to make effective decisions

•Strong communication and collaboration skills, building trust with others

•Willingness to challenge the status quo and facilitate different perspectives to drive solutions

•Strong analytical skillset, and Microsoft Excel proficiency
