OBJECTIVES/PURPOSE


  • Serve in an exciting role as a laboratory senior research associate that directly supports our cutting-edge drug discovery programs across our immune oncology pipeline.

  • Develop & execute tissue slide-based assays & perform detailed analyses that drive drug target discovery/development efforts through the identification of mechanisms of action, pharmacodynamic markers and predictive biomarker signatures.

  • Interact with stake-holders across the department as well as external vendors.

  • Be part of a rapidly-evolving team that is working to bridge drug discovery with clinical development to move our most impactful programs forward in ways that meaningfully improve patient outcomes in the clinic.


SCOPE

We are a rapidly evolving translational research laboratory that is uniquely situated between the oncology drug discovery & clinical units of Takeda. Our goal is the implementation of innovative cell phenotyping capabilities that reveal unique biomarkers and mechanisms of action that are critical to driving the development of next generation immune-modulatory drugs for the treatment of cancer. In this position, you will be embedded within the early Translational Oncology group to help drive the development of tissue-based assays and provide laboratory expertise in a multitude of ways that support next-generation immune-oncology drug development.

ACCOUNTABILITIES


  • Develop and execute singleplex and multiplex immunohistochemistry/immunofluorescence assays.

  • Conduct tissue image analyses on stained tissues from preclinical and clinical samples.

  • Incorporate proper quality controls and best practices to produce high-quality work in an efficient manner.

  • Complete all assigned laboratory duties in a timely-manner and effectively resolves technical issues.

  • Communicate and collaborate effectively with departmental colleagues and external partners in a cross-functional, highly-collaborative team environment.

  • Appropriately document testing and record data in our electronic notebook.

  • Responsibilities include ~80% lab work and ~20% collaboration with our oncology teams.

  • Demonstrates strong working knowledge of immunohistochemistry and immunohistochemistry as performed on Ventana Ultra and Leica Bond autostainers.

  • Independently conduct multiple complex experiments and/or tasks within the project scope while exercising good technical judgement to assure high quality testing and results.

  • May help train new junior staff when appropriate.

  • Recognizes problems related to samples, reagents, equipment, software, methods, and/or processes. Demonstrates a degree of independence in troubleshooting, providing technical guidance, and/or seeking out expertise for proper resolution.

  • Participates in interactions and collaborations across our ODDU and translational science programs and teams.

  • Prepares and presents technical information at laboratory and department meetings when required.

  • Potential to attend and present data directly to program teams for expand project involvement.

  • Receives high level instructions on work and then independently designs, develops, and executes in situ assignments.


EDUCATION, BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:

  • BS with 4-6+ years experience in an academic and/or industry setting related to immunohistochemistry, target validation, mechanism of action, pharmacodynamic, and translational strategies for immuno-oncology and antibody based therapeutics.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work within multi-disciplinary and matrixed teams.

  • Good fit with Takeda core values and leadership principles.

  • Right attitude (agile, curious, open-minded, "can-do" mindset).

  • Effective time management skills.

  • Experience in automated IHC/IF assay development (Lieca, Ventana) and analysis of markers in human and animal tissue specimens is strongly preferred.

  • Knowledge of oncology biology, including immuno-oncology.

  • Experience in image analysis (HALO software) desirable but not required.

LOCATION & TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

• This role is considered a hybrid position and you must be able to work onsite in Cambridge, MA on average 2-3 days per week.

Absent an approved religious or medical reason, all US office-based and lab-based Takeda employees who work fully on-site or in a hybrid model (as determined by Takeda) must be fully vaccinated to work at a Takeda site or to engage with Takeda colleagues or anyone else on behalf of Takeda.
