A Day in the Life

The Sr Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for product-related issues associated with sustaining engineering of current products. Responsibilities include cost oversight, detailed data analysis of manufacturing efficiency, process development, change management leadership, and point of contact in interfacing with various contributing organizations, Contract Manufacturers, Vendors, Supply Chain, Management, R&D, Manufacturing, Quality, and Operations Engineering.


  • Leads or supports initiatives in all product manufacturing aspects: Cost reduction, quality improvement, Service/Repair, Process Improvement, Documentation.
  • Develops sound understanding of product & process designs and focuses on ways to improve manufacturing processes as well as identify and implement cost reductions.
  • Gathers and analyzes manufacturing metrics and works closely with the Quality and Manufacturing organizations to define appropriate process changes.
  • Provide a high level of urgency for thorough resolution of issues in manufacturing & service
  • Uses statistical techniques and risk based decisions to compile and analyze data and realize appropriate improvement initiatives
  • Works closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Quality to coordinate product changes
  • Participates on cross-functional operations team in implementing RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) programs within the Company.
  • Define, lead and execute medium to large sized engineering projects
  • Continuously improve safety, quality, delivery and cost on assigned product lines or areas of responsibility
  • Ability to effectively train others in a variety of technical functions
  • Provides Design for Manufacturability guidance to R&D Engineering regarding design concepts and specification requirements to best utilize equipment and manufacturing techniques.

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.

  • Designs manufacturing processes, procedures and production layouts for assemblies, equipment installation, processing, machining and material handling.
  • Designs arrangement of machines within plant facilities to ensure most efficient and productive layout.
  • Designs sequence of operations and specifies procedures for the fabrication of tools and equipment and other functions that affect product performance.
  • Adapts machine or equipment design to factory and production conditions.
  • May incorporate inspection and test requirements into the production plan.
  • Inspects performance of machinery, equipment, and tools to verify their efficiency, and investigates and initiates corrective action of problems and deficiencies to ensure product quality.
  • Develops manufacturing processes that are applicable to statistical process control, and may develop those techniques.
  • Provides guidance to engineering regarding design concepts and specification requirements to best utilize equipment and manufacturing techniques.
  • Ensures processes and procedures are in compliance with regulations

compensation (commensurate w/ experience) $86,800-$108,500 plus 15% MIP

Must Have: Minimum Requirements


  • Bachelors degree required
  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 2 years relevant experience

Nice to Have

  • Bachelors degree in electrical engineering or related field
  • Manufacturing experience in PCBA or system manufacturing, other automated and manual assembly/test processes.
  • Experience in heavily regulated industry (Medical Device, Aerospace, Automotive, Defense, etc.)
  • Essential Characteristics: Actions oriented and Self-starter, proactive, forward-thinking, able to see the big picture, technically proficient, skilled in conflict management, customer focus, making timely and quality decisions, problem solver who drives for results & continuously improves
  • Experienced in programming Programmable Logic Controllers and Drive Controls (preferred)
  • Knowledge and understanding of Engineering change management systems (Agile preferred)
  • Excellent oral, presentation, and technical writing skills.
  • Knowledge of operations engineering and manufacturing facilities and systems
  • At ease speaking in front of people, both working level and management.
  • Experience in directing production technicians and operators, developing preventive maintenance programs
  • Instructs manufacturing and technical support staff on engineering changes, processes, and other issues.
  • Provides written reports and engineering documentation as well as cost and time estimates for engineering and project schedules.
  • Familiar with Process validation procedures (IQ/OQ/PQ)
  • Assures compliance with company Standard Operating Procedures and policies, and demonstrates knowledge and understanding of Good Manufacturing Practices and all other applicable standards.
  • Stays informed about applicable new rules, regulations, and standards.
  • Maintains a clean, safe, and orderly work area, and follows all safety procedures.
  • Working knowledge of 5S, Manufacturing flow (LEAN, DFT, etc), project management techniques, structured root cause analysis techniques (KT, 8D, etc), process validation & product verification
  • Skilled in Minitab data analysis is preferred
  • Proficient with MS office programs & tools (Excel, Word, SharePoint, Visio, Access, etc)
  • Familiarity with IEC standards related to medical device manufacturing & design
  • Competence in dealing with multiple organizations and disciplines, leading projects, directing meetings, making assignments, documenting and tracking action plans, and MS Project Schedules.
