Job Description:

Position Overview: This is the first level of the Engineering classification.  Provide engineering/technical expertise to solve problems in a specific area of expertise, with close supervision.  Incumbents are expected to develop skills in their field of study, and the ability to work with greater independence.

Duties & Responsibilities              

Under close supervision, in the area of expertise will provide

Requirements


  • Bachelor’s degree from an EAC/ABET accredited Engineering Program OR an approved evaluation of non-ABET credentials by NCEES OR graduation from a Master’s or Doctoral Program in Engineering from an institution with EAC/ABET accredited Undergraduate Engineering Programs.

  • Understanding of basic engineering theories and principles.

  • Understanding of basic practices of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations, and preparing and presenting recommendations.

  • Ability to deal with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.

  • Good written and oral communication skills.

  • Understanding of basic electricity and power quality.

  • Knowledge of Distribution construction standards and methods.

  • Effective oral and written communication skills.

  • Experience with SEL RTAC ACSELERATOR software, SEL fast message simulator, SEL DNP simulator, and DAQ CallistoView software to simulate field conditions.

  • A working knowledge of SCADA protocols such as DNP and SEL protocol.

  • General knowledge of networking protocols and equipment.

This position will be working with lab test equipment supporting the DSCADA (Distribution Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) and DMS (Distribution Management System) for the Client’s DMS program.  Other tasks include trouble shooting, issue tracking, data clean-up, documentation updates, and development of statistical analysis.

Major Job Duties include:

• Practices a “Safety First” attitude incorporating company safety rules and policies in all aspects of daily work.

• Utilize SEL RTAC ACSELERATOR software, SEL fast message simulator, SEL DNP simulator and DAQ CallistoView software to simulate field conditions and validate SCADA information.

• Download configurations into SEL RTAC and DAQ Edge RTUs.

• Set up test equipment by connecting/disconnecting cables, adding/removing IoE cards and microchips.

• Follow a scripted test procedure and verify that lab equipment reflect proper information (alarms, events, analogs, status) as a result of testing.

• Track issues as they are identified and re-test when resolved.

• Prepare thorough and accurate technical and business reports, effective correspondence, accurate documentation and well-maintained records.

• Responsible for implementing and ensuring adherence to system specific policies & procedures.

• Track and analyze system and business key metrics. Participate in data analysis and root cause investigations.

• Responsible for developing, writing and updating user documentation.

• Operate in a stressful environment and multi-task effectively.

• Work independently and is self-starting performing tasks indicative of the job. Works well without direct supervision.
