Under minimal supervision, the Sandblaster is responsible for sandblasting on jobs as assigned. Essential job functions include: 1. Performs sandblasting for the removal of rust, scale, paint, corrosion and foreign matter from metal and nonmetal items ranging in size from moderate to large complex items. 2. Operates, controls and performs preventive maintenance on automatic blasting bays, nozzle blasting chambers, nozzle blasting booths etc.  3. Practices safe sandblasting procedures and processes. Works withabrasives for large structures and objects or small and intricate items of metal and nonmetal item.  4. Set up, prepare, operate, regulate and maintain stationary and portable sandblasting equipment. Adjusts work process to the characteristics of steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and other metals or nonmetal items.  5. Assures that the proper abrasive i.e. metal, grit, metal shot, seed, glass bead etc. and/or consistency of combined abrasives: are used on the various surfaces to produce the desired finished product. 6. Identify composition of surfaces and determine proper abrasive or combination of abrasives.  7. Regulates nozzle orifice for proper pressure of air or vapor to avoid warping or damaging items or surfaces and protect surface not to be blasted with masking tape.  8. Visually inspects work prior to, during and after sandblasting for defects or quality issues. 9. Reads and applies operating and maintenance manual instructions to maintain equipment. 10. Operates a forklift or other aerial equipment.  11. Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications - 3 years industrial sandblasting experience. - Must be able to pass a respirator physical, if required, and fit test. Must be able to lift 50 pounds.  - Must be willing to work weekends and other hours as needed. Physical Requirements - Must be able to lift 50lbs or more - Must be able to stand, squat, bend, crawl, reach - Must be able to climb ladders or make use of a lift - Is exposed to noise, dust, fumes, and abrasives. Required to wear protective clothing. - Must be able to work in extreme heat wearing proper PPE to include an air fed hood.
