The purpose of this position is to lead, review, and contribute to validation planning, risk assessment, system requirements formulation, design specifications, qualification protocol, and remediation efforts. The person will act as a cross-functional, inter-business unit resource. As such, the incumbent must be technically competent in multiple disciplines including information technology, quality, and GxP processes.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities


  • Provide technical validation related guidance to all Zimmer locations and departments, ensuring consistency in approach and purpose.

  • Execute, confirm and document test results, when required to do so.

  • Lead projects, involving cross functional teams, using project management methodologies.

  • Implement appropriate methodologies to ensure validation resources are deployed according to level of risk.

  • Enact measures and reviews to ensure systems, once validated, remain in a validated state throughout their life cycle.

  • Manage and confront issues as they arise.

  • Formulate cross functional teams, gaining consensus of requirements and approach.

  • Prepares and assures completion of required personnel training.

  • Assist in the development and implementation of the quality strategy and objectives.

  • Requires a broad business perspective, including understanding the processes used within the respective areas, project management and Zimmer business goals of cost, quality and customer satisfaction.

  • Must work well with others and interact effectively with all levels, outside contacts and support personnel.

  • Must manage conflict effectively with all areas of the business.

  • Must be creative in solving problems with new products to maintain scheduled completion dates.

  • Must possess an understanding of GxP regulations, state of the art validation techniques.

  • Must be able to develop, implement, and execute system protocols.

  • Requires an understanding of process, equipment, software, and infrastructure validation, with an emphasis on software.

  • Must be familiar with Good Manufacturing Practices, Good Laboratory Practices, good Clinical Practices and QSR/ISO standards.

  • Experience with all aspects of modern quality control/assurance techniques. 

Education/Experience Requirements


  • Bachelor’s Degree in computer science or an appropriate engineering discipline.

  • Two years of experience managing validations preferred

  • A combination of education and experience may be considered.

  • 5-7 years of work experience.

Travel Requirements

• Up to 15%. Both domestic and international travel is required.
