If so, Garmin is looking for an Outdoor Segment Quality Lead to partner with our product development teams to ensure and drive product quality for our coastal fishing, inland fishing, cruising, and sailing markets.  This individual will be responsible for leading efforts to address product concerns and driving improvements for our customers by working with our Engineering, Product Support, Operations and Marketing teams.

We’re seeking a segment quality lead who’s a technical problem solver, embodies independent drive, builds strong relationships, and takes personal ownership of their responsibilities.  This includes creation and maintenance of quality tools and methods as it relates to monitoring, responding, and preventing quality issues including input as the voice-of-the-customer across engineering and other internal departments. With an appropriate sense of urgency, the individual must be able to support product development, testing, user experience and return processes for continual improvement.
 
We are looking for a full-time Segment Quality Lead for our headquarters in the greater Kansas City area. In this role you will be responsible for investigating warranty returns by participating on cross functional teams of Engineering, Materials, Manufacturing, Customer Repair, and Process Engineering staff to identify and implement process and design improvements in order to continuously improve product quality. Other essential functions include:


  • Understand and apply quality tools to aid in data management and issue resolution

  • Track quality issues across functional areas and work with product teams, suppliers and /or manufacturing to move issues to completion.

  • Document and communicate lessons learned across functional teams   

  • Advocate for Voice of the Customer metrics throughout design and development by participating in design reviews.

  • Support root cause analysis of recurring quality failures and implementation of process and design improvements 

  • Meet with Project teams to review product quality objectives and support implementation and verification techniques

  • Support and document quality meetings

  • Act as the single point of contact for Voice of the Customer related communications within the organization 

  • Know and understand organizational needs and quality objectives to support alignment throughout project lifecycles


Due to the amount of resources and expense exhausted in training for this position, a minimum of one year from the start of this position will be required before an associate is eligible for a job transfer. 

Qualified candidates possess a Technical Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience with a cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 and a demonstrated ability to apply learned knowledge. Other requirements include:


  • Demonstrated project management experience

  • Must be detail-oriented and have the ability to work effectively with minimal supervision

  • Must possess the ability to operate effectively within a team environment and work across functional and organizational boundaries

  • Demonstrated ability to implement quality improvement tools in a team environment

  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task in a flexible, fast paced and challenging environment


Previous work or internship experience in a quality engineering role and experience with business intelligence and reporting tools is highly preferred!
