Job Description:

This dual product/project focused, developing leadership position leads the overall technical coordination of complex product development activities and is accountable for the project management of technical risk and quality of the product up to and including early production. This position integrates the requirements of the many interdisciplinary and cross functional stakeholders of product development, often involving difficult decisions that impact cost and delivery without sacrifice to the quality expectations of the value package profile.

Obtains input and negotiates with program leadership, customers, customer teams, product engineers or technology teams to deliver robust prototype and production designs, technical risk mitigation plans, and coordinated deliverables of new or current product change activity.

Other important stakeholders of this role include preferred partner suppliers, manufacturing, purchasing, technical leadership and marketing teams.

Makes decisions in the areas of design and project risk trade-offs that impact program cost or delivery without sacrifice of quality expectations.

Main focus will include working in business processes of Product Preceding Technology (PPT), Value Package Introduction (VPI) or Current Product Support (CPS) and using tools such as Product Development Six Sigma (PDSS), iDFMEA, Voice of the Customer and Voice of Other Stakeholders (VOC/VOX), Integrity, MS Office Suite, New Unique and Difficult (NUD) and project risk 9-box and Value Package Introduction - Project Portfolio Management (VPI-PPM), all required to support high quality decision making.

Provides problem resolution leadership for complex systems with a high degree of ambiguity and often global business impact.

Leads the development and improvement of work processes and systems across function(s) within a global business unit or managing improvement across business units.

Coordinates and directs work of technical project teams, up to and including direct management of small to mid-sized teams.

Operates as the recognized multi-competency specialist or expert in a discipline or product area across a site or global business unit with responsibility for developing local talent (direct or indirect).

Coaches and mentors other engineers, project managers and cross-functional team members.

May also include academic or industry collaboration in a competency or discipline area.

We are looking for a talented Technical Advisor – Advanced Engineering to join our team specializing in Engineering for our in Columbus, IN / your remote home office.

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:


  • This position will involve a mix owning and delivering of technical projects, new technologies, and working to scope future projects

  • Working with internal and external stakeholders in identifying, understanding, and provide appropriate technical solutions to the challenges on projects

  • Provide insight and technical knowledge in the development of new technologies and products

  • Work with customers to help them identify and establish most appropriate architectural solutions for their system

  • Being able to work to identify, diagnosis, assess risk, and provide solutions while working to logically solve problems and obstacles that occur during projects

  • Overseeing and directly manage a budget that will be used for projects

Skills

Project Management - Establishes and maintains the "Balanced Triangle" of Scope, Schedule and Resources for a temporary effort (a "project").

Product Development Execution, Monitoring and Control - Plans, schedules, coordinates and executes the activities involved in developing a product to a respectively aligned hierarchy of requirements and technical profiles; monitors and communicates across functional boundaries to meet project resource and quality expectations; ensures product capability meets or exceeds expectations and takes mitigating actions when project risks are higher than expected; understands the full product life cycle process and stakeholders.

System Requirements Engineering  - Uses appropriate methods and tools to translate stakeholder needs into verifiable requirements to which designs are developed; establishes acceptance criteria for the system of interest through analysis, allocation and negotiation; tracks the status of requirements throughout the system lifecycle; assesses the impact of changes to system requirements on project scope, schedule, and resources; creates and maintains information linkages to related artifacts.

Systems Thinking - Defines the system of interest by drawing the boundaries, identifying its context within its environment, its interfaces, and that it has a lifecycle to aid in planning the problem statement, scope and deliverables ; analyzes linkages and interactions between elements that comprise the system of interest by using appropriate methods, models and integration of outcomes to understand the system, predict its behavior and devise modifications to it in order to produce the desired effects.

Product Platform Development - Integrates all of the market and key customer needs of a given product platform into a comprehensive and holistic development plan; verifies platform capability for all planned and approved architectural variants within the boundaries of market use rather than the boundaries of any single customer within the target usage markets.

Education, Licenses, Certifications

College, university, or equivalent Bachelor's degree in Engineering or other relevant technical disciplines is required.

This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.

Experience

Demonstrated success having worked in a Technical Specialist/Specialist Engineering role on lower complexity product development activities, translating customer needs and negotiating into product development plans, technical profiles and/or product specifications with a proven track record of successful product decisions.

This position will focus on PPT (Product Preceding Technology) projects - working to define requirements and own projects through to handover to VPI teams.

There are elements of supporting North America customer engineering and working across BU's, with close links to CMI R&T

The individual will also have responsibility for managing the CTT Advanced Engineering R&T support budget

The team is global, as are the projects: this rolemay be based in Columbus US or Huddersfield UK. If US-based, the successfulapplicant would be the sole CTT Advanced Engineering representative and as suchwould need to be capable of operating with a degree of autonomy, demonstratingownership of their own work plan.

Good communication skills and being able to cope with ambiguity to define project scope or deliverables are key skills for this position.
 

To be successful in this role you will need the following:


  • College or University degree in Engineering or related field is highly preferred

  • Ideal candidate will have a minimum of 7 years experience working within the Engineering or related fields, and additional experience with mechanical engineering or work with electronics or controls systems/software is preferred

  • Experience working with turbo chargers is highly desired

  • Must have great communication skills and the abilities to make presentations to a wide range of stakeholders
