Position Overview

Saint Anselm College, a private, liberal arts college in the Benedictine tradition, is seeking to fill the role of Systems Administration and Operations Analyst to join the Network System and Services team within the Office of Information Technology.

We are seeking to write the book on effective systems / solutions administration and operations management for a small college. As we modernize the mission support technology solutions of the College, we are seeking to augment our technology services team with innovative, creative and forward thinking analysts who seek to design, create, curate and maintain secure and highly effective administrative and operational processes in support of a complex suite of on-premise, cloud, and service provider solutions. We are seeking someone who will be an integral part of the transformation that is currently underway and continuing for the foreseeable future.

Our mission is to enable and support comprehensive services portfolio for students, faculty, and staff in direct support of teaching, learning, academic excellence, student life, administration and operations of the college. Nearly every dimension of the college is dependent on technology and it is the role of the Systems Administration and Operations Analyst to remove obstacles, solve problems and enable our students, faculty, staff, administration and members of the monastic community to be effective at their work and activities.

Position Location

This position is located at the Saint Anselm College campus in Manchester, NH. However, partial remote work from the following states may also be considered: Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont. At Saint Anselm College, we ask that our remote employees have access to a reliable internet connection and a dedicated, properly equipped workspace at a fixed location within the United States (in one of the approved states as reflected above) that is free of distractions and dependencies. The nature and structure of the remote work options will be coordinated with the supervisor and will be documented in a formal remote work plan.

Characteristic Duties & Responsibilities

We support the College by understanding and anticipating the technology needs of the community and providing effective solutions to support those needs.

The duties and responsibilities of this position includes:


  • Constantly seeking to improve the operational effectiveness and efficiency of the administration and operations of the technology environments of the college.

  • Envision, design, analyze, implement and maintain on-premise operating environments, virtual environments, databases, data storage, middleware, and server operating systems.

  • Integrate, implement, maintain SaaS, service provider and cloud solutions.

  • Advanced administration of Linux and Windows servers within a physical and virtualized environment.

  • Independently applies technical and non-technical judgment to solve a wide range of issues and develop practical and automated solutions.

  • Configures, maintains, updates and supports servers and the technology services and applications that run on them.

  • Maintains enabling systems services or activities such as data backup, security assessment, and performance monitoring.

  • Conduct security scans, analyze, and remediate systems; monitor systems status to schedule patches and updates as appropriate to ensure secure systems

  • Installing, maintaining, troubleshooting and diagnosing internal and external systems, services, software, and hardware issues.

  • Evaluating hardware, software and services solutions to improve the support to the college.

  • Effectively solving problems that include seeking to understand root causes, seeking solutions and implementing changes to address the process or issues at the source of the issue.

  • Manage priorities and triage services request and support activities. Effectively manage request in the management system and provide good communications with involved users.

  • Communicating with the members of the community to ensure there is a clear understanding of the best practices and approaches for meeting the technology needs of the College.

  • Occasional after hours, night, or weekend support for maintenance, installation, or troubleshooting as the need arises.

A successful member of this team will be constantly focused on the continuous improvement of the technology operations and administration in support of the mission of the college. They will have a keen understanding of the variety of technology needs of the College and the specific needs of the various departments and offices on campus. They are a vital part of the life of the community because they enable others to be successful at what they need to do by enabling the effective use of technology.

Qualifications


  • Bachelors degree in Computer Sciences, Information Technology or relevant technical experience OR combination of education and experience. Technology certifications can also be used to support knowledge, skills and abilities.

  • Working knowledge modern operational models and frameworks (ITIL, Cobit, LEAN) and tools and techniques supporting these models.

  • Working knowledge and experience with Windows (Windows 10), Windows Server (Windows Server 2019), Linux, Active Directory and Office 365.

  • Strong working knowledge and experience with VMware and virtualized environments.

  • Working knowledge and experience with cloud services solutions such as AWS or Azure.

  • Strong knowledge of TCP/IP and iSCSI protocols as it would relate to server integration.

  • Experience with some or all of the following areas is desired:

    • Single Sign-On solutions (such as Duo, Okta, or Auth0)

    • Single Sign-On protocols (such as SAML, OpenID, or OAuth)

    • Vulnerability assessment solutions (such as Nessus or Qualys)

    • Enterprise level storage area network (SAN) solutions

    • Cloud-based files storage solutions (such as Dropbox or Box)

    • Infrastructure monitoring tools (such as SolarWinds or Nagios)

    • PowerShell scripting or other task automation and configuration management scripting language.


  • Strong troubleshooting skills and discipline for troubleshooting in a logical and systematic manner is a must. Resourcefulness and quick-thinking nature to troubleshoot new and critical technical issues as they arise.

  • Strong communications and personal interaction skills. This include the ability to work with technical and non-technical users.

  • Strong drive to provide excellent service and experience to those we support. This includes an awareness of needs and constraints, possible solutions, prioritization of tasks and effective communications to all involved.

  • Good problem-solving, analytical and team working skills.

  • Eagerness and openness to learning new technologies and technical solutions.
