How will you contribute to the team?

Construction Superintendent/Senior level inspector position responsible for management and performance of Quality Assurance and Quality Oversight inspections on transportation construction projects. Position responsible for monitoring Contractor and Sub-Contractor activities; verifying that project scope, schedule, quality and safety fully satisfy contract documents, including plans and specifications. This position will monitor construction progress and provide project status updates to Management. Supports Project Manager in the establishment and management of staff necessary to monitor the progress of the work. Specific areas of responsibility include the following:


  • Responsible for construction oversight of major transportation construction projects, values ranging from $20M to +$300M


  • Coordinate inspection staff to verify that Contractor's activities are monitored and performed in accordance with plans, specifications and contractual requirements


  • Train inspection staff as necessary to perform inspection duties (including use of inspection tools and equipment) to oversee the Contractor’s work activities


  • Communicate daily with Contractor’s site and quality personnel regarding construction activities


  • Maintain project documentation including daily work reports, quantity verification sheets, material/invoicing information, test and tabulation logs, photographs, etc.


  • Track current and projected project quantities, monitor and validate actual quantities and compare to those forecasted in the design estimate.


  • Coordinate with various testing labs and ensure test results are received, tracked and tabulation logs are maintained, including input of data into various record keeping software as necessary.


  • Assist in review of and response to submittals, RFI’s and Contractor’s correspondence, as required


  • Assist in development of solutions to unique or unforeseen issues that arise during construction


  • Help to develop and implement on-site procedures for monitoring performance of the work


  • Collect data to review issues with management staff and work to develop possible resolutions


  • Read and interpret plans and contract documents


  • Monitor Contractor progress and compare with current progress schedule


  • Adherence to Atkins Quality Control and Safety programs


What will you contribute?


  • High School Diploma required, Bachelor's degree in construction science/management or civil engineering from an accredited program preferred.


  • Minimum 15 years construction inspection and management experience required, including 10 or more in Transportation industry.


  • Excellent communications and supervisory skills.


  • Must have ability to deal effectively with Contractor, Sub-Contractor, Testing Lab and various other on-site personnel.


  • Experience working with on-site client and jurisdictional agency personnel is preferred.


  • Experience in TxDOT SiteManager software, as well as other TxDOT systems a plus.


  • Experience as the Chief Inspector on at least one project with a construction value of over $50M also a plus.


  • This position requires an individual capable of managing multiple inspectors and testing agencies, in addition to coordinating with Construction Management. 


  • Must be willing to work majority of time in the field. Experience in web-based project management systems preferred. 


  • Valid driver's license required. In addition, must meet standards to qualify for and maintain the Company's vehicle driving privileges as outlined in the Company's Motor Vehicle Safety Policy.
