Job Description:

Definition: As a part of the ATCAA team, the Early Childhood Services Food Services Coordinator plays an essential role in ATCAA as a whole. The Food Services Coordinator oversees the ATCAA Early/Head Start meal program to ensure that each center is providing healthy, attractive and nutritious meals for children aged birth to five years old. The Food Services Coordinator works with parents and staff to develop meal plans, trains parents and staff and works as a part of the management team to monitor health and nutrition in Preschool and Toddler Centers. The Food Services Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the California Adult Child Food Program (CACFP), including monitoring menus, meal service, and food service contracts; renewing contracts; purchasing food and supplies; maintaining records, including CACFP database; and preparing reports.

Job Duties and Responsibilities Related to This Position:

Prepare CACFP reports and Claims for Reimbursement including verifying meal counts;
Prepare purchase specifications, request for bids, requisitions and/or purchase orders for food service equipment and supplies;
Ensure compliance with CACFP, Dept. of Health, Head Start and other applicable regulations through regular monitoring and staff training;
Work with staff to plan menus and shopping associated with menu production;
Develop new staff orientation and coaching program and train and mentor new staff.
Help staff and parents integrate produce from school gardens into school menus;
Work with nutrition consultants to review menus as required;
Confer with parents and/or the Health Manager as necessary concerning children's nutritional information and needs. Oversee provision of special diets with the help of the Health Services Manager;
Participate in Policy Council Committee meetings and the Health Advisory Board Committee;
Partner with appropriate community resources (e.g., Health Department, U.C. Cooperative Extension, etc.) for food and education resources;
Complete the renewal of annual CACFP contracts with State Department of Education;
Develop training plan, monitor training hours, and provide training for ECS staff in nutrition and safe food handling, Civil Rights and all funding required training;
Provide technical support to teachers and parents concerning menu development, snacks/food for parent meetings and events, classroom cooking projects and parent cooking projects;
Monitor purchasing to ensure they are followed by Center staff;
Interact with Department of Education, Child Care Food Program personnel;
Represent ATCAA ECS in the community attending meetings of agencies serving the community and serving on committees;
Attend CACFP yearly trainings and others as required;
Work with other ATCAA ECS Managers to assure that the delivery of service to children and families is carried out in a comprehensive integrated and coordinated manner;
Substitute for classroom assistants as needed.

Complete other tasks as assigned by the supervisor, which are consistent with the definition and intent of the job description.

Minimum Qualifications:

Meet all federal/state licensing requirements and/or program requirements necessary for this position: possess a continuously valid California driver's license, an acceptable driving record, fingerprint clearance, TB Test, and health screening;
Strong computer skills including the ability to type accurately at least 40 wpm;
High School diploma or equivalent, and two years experience in a supervisory capacity in institutional food service, preferably with the National School Lunch or Child Care Food Program;
Knowledge of child nutrition;
Knowledge of food service health, safety, and sanitation regulations and practices;
Ability to perform basic math calculations using a calculator;
Ability to lift 30 pounds.

Desired Qualifications:

Previous experience working in a childcare food program;
Previous Head Start experience;
Computer training/experience with spreadsheets and database;
Early Childhood Education Education/Experience;
Bi-lingual/Bi-cultural;
