Akima Infrastructure Services, LLC (AIS), is actively seeking individuals who can contribute to national security within the project management and business services fields as part of our staff augmentation team supporting the Department of Energy at Oak Ridge National Laboratory.  AIS has an established history of contributing to the success of our customer’s mission.

Successful candidates will be employees of AIS, a premier government contractor charged with employing highly motivated and well-qualified personnel who can advance the missions of the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Oak Ridge, TN.  Though employed by AIS, the employee will take day-to-day direction from technical personnel employed directly by the research laboratory. Pay, benefits, Human Resource, and Employment Management functions are provided by AIS.

The Technical Communications Specialist / Technical Writer will provide dedicated technical writing support to the Exascale Computing Project (ECP) to produce articles based on interviews with the project’s principal investigators and lead researchers.  Articles will provide highlights on technical achievements in areas of software technology development, applications being prepared for Exascale, and collaborative integration efforts featuring Exascale computing co-design.

Essential Duties:


  • The writer will produce different products based on direction from the ECP communications team.  Products will range from bylined technical highlight articles (750-1,500 words), spotlight features (500-750 words), and other feature stories with multi-lab and multi-subject matter experts involved

  • The writer is expected to have a detailed technical understanding of software development and deployment issues and integration challenges of application development necessary to reframe the project’s technical achievements for public consumption. The writer should have an intimate understanding of high-performance computing and the challenges of preparing applications and software for forthcoming Exascale computing systems

Minimum Qualifications: 

 

You must be able to meet all health requirements, including but not limited to, current and future vaccination requirements for infectious diseases such as COVID-19.

 


  • Qualified applicants must be a US citizen, at least 18 years of age, and able to meet pre-employment requirements including any required physicals, drug screen, and/or background investigation to satisfy clearance requirements from the Department of Energy

  • Research background required with 15+ years’ experience performing research at multiple DOE national laboratories

  • 10+ experience and high visibility publishing articles as a science and technology writer, teacher, and keynote speaker

  • The writer should have at least 15 years of experience working in high performance computing and software development.  Experience working with government labs is desirable. The writer will work with minimal supervision, from an approved plan of expected deliverables and will keep the ECP Communications Lead informed of progress or any expected delays on a weekly basis

  • Research background required with 15+ years’ experience performing research at multiple DOE national laboratories

  • Publications and research must demonstrate a deep knowledge of machine learning with proven portfolio of peer-reviewed publications in the science and technology literature

  • Publications and books must also demonstrate a deep knowledge of HPC along with scalability plus scientific and commercial applicability

  • Advanced interpersonal skills and customer focus; ability to build relationships, influence, and collaborate at all levels

  • Ability to partner effectively with internal/external customers and stakeholders

  • High level of professionalism, personal integrity, and dependability
