Job Summary

This position is within the Ground Support and Repair Equipment (GSRE) department which is under AGS Americas Engineering department. The Test Set Engineer will be responsible for the design and development of test program software and test kit hardware (test adapters and cables) for automated and semi-automated test systems. Including being responsible for supporting fielded Ground Support and Repair Equipment hardware and software. The emphasis of this position will be on new development and improving test efficiency in support of world-wide repair and production activities.

Key Areas of Responsibility


  • Design and Development test software using LABVIEW and TestStand and document the activities done.

  • Create and update task status using ERP system(s) along with other methods and tools.

  • Procure necessary equipment following standard operating procedures, i.e. SAP system

  • Support worldwide repair stations as needed, i.e. JIRA tickets

  • Analyze existing capabilities and suggest improvements

  • Generate and distribute documents and reports to key stakeholders that include but not limited to Test Program Set, Test Set Description, Acceptance Test Program, Campaign Release, and Validation testing.

  • Represent Thales when working with customers on or off-site that include but not limited to installing new Test Sets and Test Set Support issues (i.e. Bugs, Improvements).

Minimum Requirements


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Minimum 5 years of in field electronics experience, or an Associate’s degree in electronics with a minimum of 1 to 2+ years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • 5+ year’s experience in board level testing and troubleshooting using manual bench equipment or automated test equipment.

  • Experience working with Ethernet, USB, RS232 and networking protocols

  • Experience of working with software systems including Windows 7/10 and LabVIEW/TestStand

  • Understand the test software requirements and prepare the SRD.

  • Ability to follow test procedures and good attention to detail

  • Work independently based upon your own initiative and as part of a team

  • Communicate both verbal and written to customers and key stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications


  • Knowledge of software product SAP system would be an advantage

  • Knowledge of software product JIRA issue tracking system would be an advantage

  • Knowledge of software product Bitbucket would be an advantage

  • Knowledge of other software languages such as, Linux, C/C++, Android

  • Familiarity with Digital and RF test techniques

  • Familiarity with Audio and video analysis including NTSC TV standards

Physical Demands


  • This position occasionally requires lifting items up to 60 lbs., and occasionally heavier

  • All items over 30 lbs. require a second person to assist in lifting

Special Position Requirements

Schedule: The expected work schedule is Monday through Friday, primarily between 8a-5p. Some remote working is acceptable.

Physical Environment:

Travel: This position may require some domestic travel, primarily between Irvine and Orlando/Melbourne, as well as International travel of up to 10% annually.
