Medical Staff Coordinator (Medical Staff) - Full Time, Days (Culver City)

The Medical Staff Coordinator assists with all medical staff related credentialing activities. Processes Medical Staff and Allied Health Professional applications, in accordance with Joint Commission and CMS guidelines. Maintains paper files and completes electronic database input and management. Works with the Director of Medical Staff Services to act as a liaison for medical staff, nursing, administration and the Governing Body of the hospital. Works closely with the Chief of Staff and Department Chairmen for the enhancement and efficiency of the medical staff functions.

Job Responsibilities/Duties


  • Reviews, evaluates and processes Medical Staff and Allied Health Professional staff applications and reapplications, in a timely manner, as required by the Medical Staff Bylaws. Sends reference requests and follow-up requests, in accordance with department policies/procedures and/or medical staff bylaws. Notifies physicians of their acceptance to the staff and the privileges granted. Assists in keeping the Director, Administration, the Chief of Staff, Department Chairs and hospital management informed of issues related to the medical staff, department and/or its functions, as appropriate.
  • Maintains confidential, up-to-date credentials files for Medical Staff members and Allied Health Professional staff members. Prepares summaries and reports of medical staff credentialing activities for the MEC and Governing Body, including pertinent recommendations from the Medical Staff. Manages monthly maintenance of files to ensure compliance, i.e. licenses, DEA, malpractice insurance, other certificates, as applicable. Maintains working knowledge and understanding of Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules and Regulations, policies and protocols and their application.
  • Processes requests for additional and temporary privileges, as appropriate, analyzing these requests in terms of required educational criteria and obtains appropriate approvals. Distributes notices of privileges granted. Manages the proctoring function for initial applicants, as well as requests for additional privileges, as appropriate.
  • Attends and maintains accurate minutes of the medical staff committee meetings, and other meetings, as assigned. Follows through on all recommendations, correspondence and/or directives, channeling actions from one meeting to another, as may be required. Follows-up and to act as a resource of information concerning medical staff credentialing issues. Works with the Chief of Staff in activating ad hoc committees, preparing correspondence, and performing general clerical duties for the Department.

Qualifications

Minimum Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent required.

Minimum Experience: One (1) year of Medical Staff Office experience or two (2) years clerical work experience required. Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job. Must be able to read, write and communicate effectively in English. Computer literacy and proficiency. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across. Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload. Ability to multitask and prioritize needs to meet timelines. Previous Acute Care Experience preferred. Demonstrated knowledge of medical staff issues and working knowledge of Joint Commission, CMS and other regulatory agencies' rules and regulations preferred.

Req. Certification/Licensure: Certification as Certified Provider Credentialing Coordinator (CPCS) preferred.
