Job Description:

City Experiences is seeking a Port Captain for our Alcatraz operation in San Francisco.


About You:


This person will be adaptable, dynamic, and embody City Experiences’ RESPECT Service System.


About the Opportunity:


Oversees fleet captains and crew and trains and provides feedback for evaluation of their performance. Ensures that ferry logs, licensing information and safety training records are maintained. Ensures that all company policies and values are demonstrated and followed by marine crew. Also responsible for operating United States Coast Guard Inspected Small Passenger Vessels under contract for the National Park Service and Alcatraz Island in a manner that ensures the Safety and Security of the Crew, Enjoyment of the Passengers, and Respect for the Environment.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities:



  • Directly supervises the marine crew in all areas of Marine Transportation Safety, Security, and Training.

  • Oversees the fleet’s proper documentation of all logs, licensing information and safety training records.

  • When serving as the Master in Navigational Command, operates the vessel with due regard for proper Standards of Watch Standing and Wheelhouse Resources Management in accordance with the practice of good seamanship.

  • Routinely inspects all areas of the vessel for unsafe conditions, performs accident investigations, and makes safety announcements to ensure the safety and comfort of the crew and passengers

  • Routinely conducts Watch Quarter Station Bill Emergency Drills in accordance with US Coast Guard regulations and conducts Safety Meetings in conformance with Statue Cruises policy, to always ensure a routinely efficient and safe operation of the vessel and the proper use of equipment during any possible onboard emergency.

  • Maintains Vessel Operations and Maintenance Logs, Personnel Reports, and all other Ship’s Business records.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.


OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Follows all U S Coast Guard regulations and has a working knowledge of the Navigational Rules of the Road.

  • Follows all National Park Service directives, and Alcatraz Island policies, to ensure all passengers, quests, and visitors to the Area have an Interpretive Experience.

  • Implements the Vessel Safety and Security Plans to ensure compliance with US Coast Guard Office of Homeland Security Rules and Regulations.

  • Supervises others in Customer Service and Environmental Practices that Respect the Planet, both by instruction and in practice by setting a good example as a team leader for others to follow, to the fulfillment of Alcatraz Cruises policies and to the enjoyment of visitors to Alcatraz Island.

  • Conducts employee job performance reviews.

  • Complies with and enforces established policies and procedures.


ADDITIONAL EXPECTATIONS:



  • Regular attendance in conformance with the standards, which may be established by Alcatraz Cruises from time to time, is essential to the successful performance of this position. Crewmembers with irregular attendance will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.

  • Upon employment, all crewmembers are required to fully comply with Alcatraz Cruises rules and regulations. Employees who violate Alcatraz Cruises rules and regulations will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.

SAFETY REQUIREMENTS:


OSHA laws require the use of the following Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when performing work duties that have the potential of risk to your health or safety:



  • Life Vest/Safety Jacket

  • Safety glasses

  • Lockout Tagout

  • Gloves

  • Ear Plugs


 


Team members will be trained in the proper use and care of assigned PPE. Alcatraz Cruises provides the required PPE. It is your responsibility to report defective, damaged or lost PPE, or equipment that does not fit properly, to your Manager.


GROOMING:



  • All team members must maintain a neat, clean, and well-groomed appearance. Specific standards available in the Employee Handbook.


Requirements & Qualifications:



  • S. Coast Guard Inland Masters (100 ton) or equivalent,

  • FCC Marine Radio license

  • Possess and maintain a current California Driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.

  • Two (2) years of boat handling experience preferred but not required.

  • Customer service experience is helpful.

  • Knowledge of foreign language is helpful.
