The Community Family Advisor provides a range of services to students and learning coaches on their caseload to ensure students are motivated to succeed, encouraged to participate, and informed of the various activities and initiatives their school offers.  The role empowers families to increase their involvement and assist in their student’s education, facilitates engagement in school activities, builds regional school community, and provides clear and consistent communication regarding school expectations and activities.

  • Maintains a regional caseload of students in grades K-12; Acts as primary point of contact for caseload;

  • Provides clear and consistent communication to families regarding school expectations and activities;

  • Supports new and returning students through the Strong Start process, including:

    1. Facilitating online strong start orientation sessions

    2. Assignments to Strong Start students from day 1 of Enrollment Approval

    3. Supporting all elements of completion of Strong Start tasks

    4. Communicating with families through email, phone calls, in person or online meetings

    5. Following up on non-completion items

    6. Conducting Welcome calls (in conjunction with homeroom teacher)

    7. Tracking and Noting completion of strong start components in TotalView (TV)

    8. Holding open office hours – Strong Start element completion focus



  • Develops and implements a community plan to meet the academic/enrichment needs of caseload through in person and online activities;

  • Facilitates live face-to-face opportunities for families to connect with the larger school community in partnership with other school teams (i.e. college visits, back to school events, book fairs);

  • Collaborates with teachers, parents, administrators, and other school staff to ascertain students’ academic needs and create a plan for success; Schedules Class Connect sessions for student based on academic plan;

  • Monitors student attendance in Class Connect and participation/progress in coursework; Notifies families of absences/truancy issues due to lack of participation. Maintains accurate documentation of student performance, progress, needs, and academics;

  • Provides 1:1 guidance and support for parents who have students experiencing academic difficulty in mathematics, English/language arts/writing, science, and social studies; Assists in developing an academic remediation (Back on Track) plan for parent and student to follow and provide ongoing support towards completion of plan;

  • Serves as a liaison between family and teachers to ensure that all school personnel understand how to contact and communicate with family in a manner that builds ties between families and school; Supports the state and local standardized testing processes;

  • Works in collaboration with school leadership and national teams on re-registration activities and sessions for families;

  • Builds networks within the community to include learning coaches, parent ambassadors and community agencies;

  • Cultivates parent volunteers, mentors and facilitators to work together within the region to and across the school to help with testing, outings, clubs, and other academic opportunities for students;

  • Provides connection point of communication to families about all national programing that engage students in the greater K12 community including Marketing competitions (Art, Music, STEM, Poetry), Student Clubs, and Academic Student Competitions;

  • Provides outreach, training, and support to families who respond to Satisfaction surveys and Students First Check In responses as it relates to family engagement to enhance the sense of community and belonging.


Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has no formal supervisory responsibilities.


Minimum Required Qualifications 



  • Two (2) years of college AND

  • Two (2) years of experience in education OR

  • Equivalent combination of education and related experience


Certificates and Licenses: None required.


OTHER REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 



  • Strong written and verbal communication skills;

  • Excellent problem-solving skills;

  • Organizations skills, multi-tasking abilities;

  • Customer service focus;

  • Adaptable and comfortable in a fast-paced work environment;

  • Experience coordinating academically-oriented clubs and extra-curricular activities;

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint); Web proficiency;

  • Familiarity with the online learning experience;

  • Ability to travel 25% of the time;

  • Ability to clear required background check.


Desired Qualifications



  • Bachelor’s degree

  • Previous experience as a Learning Coach or Advisor for K12
