Job Description:

GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:



The MGH Cancer CenterResource Practice Nurse (RPN) works collaboratively with the Nurse Director toprovide support and leadership to the practice nurses in the Cancer Centerspecialty clinics. The RPN will workcollaboratively to provide support of the daily clinic operations, whichincludes but is not limited to; staff scheduling, vacation requests, direct andindirect patient care as needed and to ensure compliance with establishedInfection Control practices at MGH and the Cancer Center. The RPN conveys a positive and professionalimage and represents the staff and the patients they care for in a professional,courteous and efficient manner. The RPNassists in facilitating a collaborative interdisciplinary approach to achieveoptimal patient outcomes and supports the mission, philosophy, standards, goalsand objectives of MGH and the Cancer Center.



PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:





  • Demonstratesawareness & recognition of the daily operations of the clinic, providingsupport to clinic staff by assessing, & evaluating the needs of the clinic.

  • Acts as aprofessional role model to all levels of staff by incorporating criticalthinking, & problem- solving skills within their scope as RPN.

  • Provides coveragefor indirect/direct patient care, if needed, to support clinical operations andthe clinic team.

  • Evaluates dailystaffing and adjusts as needed.

  • Manages staffvacation requests and ensures adequate clinic coverage.

  • Assists nursedirector with interviewing and onboarding of new hires.

  • Demonstratespositive interpersonal skills with MGH and Cancer Center patients andcolleagues.

  • Fosters anenvironment that promotes patient, family, physician, & staff satisfaction,& communicates issues & concerns to ND.

  • Proactively seeksand acts upon patient, families and staff feedback and initiates appropriateaction.

  • Interprets andenforces with staff and others the appropriate use of equipment, supplies, andphysical facilities

  • Acts as theresource to clinical staff and providers, problem solves, uses criticalthinking skills to ensure MGH and Cancer Center standards are being met.

  • Fostersprofessional and educational growth of practice nurses such as certificationand clinical ladder.




Collaboration





  • Leads staff todevelop collaborative working relationships within the cancer center and withother departments as applicable.

  • Acts as a liaisonto infusion nursing, research pharmacy, and laboratory as needed to ensureeffective clinical operations for the specialty clinics.

  • Participates inCommittee meetings as assigned/requested.

  • Collaborates withND to implement process improvement initiatives.




ProfessionalDevelopment





  • Identifies learningneeds and goals and designs a plan to meet them.

  • Maintainsnecessary clinical skills through self-directed clinical practice

  • Establishes selfas a resource for other areas where expertise may be required.

  • Supports andparticipates in departmental and institutional committees.

  • Collaborates withleadership in identification of current and future service needs and sharesresponsibility for meeting these needs.






Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:





  • Current licensure as aregistered nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

  • Baccalaureate degreerequired.

  • OCN certification preferred

  • Ambulatory oncology nursing experiencerequired




SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:





  • Demonstrates clinical competencein the area of oncology nursing

  • Demonstrates interpersonalcompetence and organizational skills.

  • Demonstrateclinical competence in nursing practice that includes the ability to assess problems or concerns and makeappropriate decisions

  • Demonstratesstrong communication and collaboration skills to foster an effectivepartnership with faculty, staff and both internal and external stakeholders.

  • Organizationalskills both to function independently and as a member of a professional team

  • Abilityto work with diverse groups of people




WORKING CONDITIONS:
