Job Description:

The mission of Methodist Healthcare Ministries of South Texas, Inc. (MHM) is " Serving Humanity to Honor God " by improving the physical, mental and spiritual health of those least served in the Rio Texas Conference area of The United Methodist Church.

Essential Duties:


  • Assumes 100% responsibility for the cleanliness of dishware to include washing/sterilizing dishes, glassware, silverware, utensils, pots, pans, etc.
  • Assumes 100% responsibility for cash register in accepting payment for food using cash register, use of credit & debit cards, and provides proper receipts and/or change.
  • Load, run and unload dish machine.
  • Monitor dish machine water temperature and detergent/sanitizer/chemical levels to ensure sanitary wash cycle.
  • Cleans kitchen work area, collects and disposes of garbage.
  • Check assigned work schedule and prepare for daily operations.
  • Ensure that the kitchen storage areas are clean and well stocked.
  • Keep floor clean and maintain free of food and spills, and arrange trash bins for kitchen deposit.
  • Provide assistance in preparing for banquet/catering events under the direction of the Lead Cook and/or Executive Chef.
  • Ensures that all mats in the kitchen are neat and clean.
  • Assists the kitchen team in setting up food items, condiments, and utensils for cafeteria line or snack area as directed.
  • Assists with maintaining accurate inventory of stock and supplies, and stores food bank orders.
  • Responsible for operating MHM's vehicle for scheduled pick up and deliveries of food items from vendors.
  • Assists in preparing bags and inventory for the food pantry program.
  • Assist with receiving, verifying and accepting vendor deliveries as needed.
  • Assist with picking up a catering order and/or clean conference room after meetings.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Adheres to state, local, and federal regulations and all MHM safety and sanitation standards.
  • Advocates and maintains a safe environment.
  • Assures quality and sanitation of all food: labeled/dated/rotated correctly.
  • Participates in performance improvement initiatives.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required. At least 6 months of cash handling experience in a similar retail environment required.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Must obtain and maintain Food Handler Certification. Valid Texas driver's license and good driving record.

Language Skills:

Must be able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Must be able to speak effectively with customers or employees of the organization (diverse audiences). Must be fluent in English. Bilingual in Spanish preferred.

Reasoning Ability:

Must be able to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Must be able to deal with problems in standardized situations. Position involves little to no latitude for judgment with regard to attainment of standards.

Computer Skills:

Must be able to demonstrate basic knowledge of the internet and is able to log in and out of computerized timecard ADP system.

While performing the duties of this job, the team member is exposed to a cafeteria environment having direct contact with patients and clients and a kitchen environment that exposes to and/or requires use of various types of equipment and utensils. Position necessitates fingering, reaching, bending, stooping, twisting, turning, climbing step stools, walking, sitting and standing for prolonged periods of time. Must be able to lift and maneuver at least 25 pounds. Must be able to perform duties while wearing personal protective equipment as required.
