LUNG HEALTH Senior Clinical Education Specialist

A Day in the Life

The Lung Health Clinical Education Specialist (CES) will report directly to the Snr. Field Clinical Manager and will have primary responsibility for enabling accelerated clinical proficiency in key accounts and delivering high impact customer education programs. The CES will focus on clinical outcomes in targeted accounts and apply clinical and technical expertise in medical procedures, devices, and course programming. They will also identify, assess and resolve adoption barriers that facilitate education and business goals. S/he should have a strong clinical background and be an expert for the Medtronic Lung Health team. The role will include the setting of education success criteria, providing leadership for achievement of goals for education, and supporting the district and national sales team goals and objectives. This position is field-based and requires up to 70% travel.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Owns the customer implementation process and procedural success metrics to ensure adoption, drive to independence, and encourage growth of program and utilization of Medtronic technologies.

    • Provide support and guidance to the Lung Health team on the implementation plan. Develop and work with team members to support all aspects of program.
    • Identify implementation challenges and select the most appropriate avenue for resolution.
    • Actively engage with and develop trusting relationships with sales team including regional team (DM, SPE, PDR) to ensure a unified approach to the customers and aligned roles and responsibilities to drive region and customer growth expectations.
    • Gain buy-in by providing consistent communication, metrics and reports on implementation status.
    • Own program goals and objectives and navigate solutions towards desired ends, while maintaining relationships and supporting consensus.
    • Encourage and provide constructive feedback to improve performance.
    • Manage change in a way that reduces the concern experienced by others.
  • Delivers customer education programs to strategically drive business objectives with a focus on customer requirements.

    • Guides medical professionals to safely and effectively use Medtronic Lung Health products including, but not limited to, capital, consumables, and technologies that enable procedure success.
    • Provides oversight for remote customer training events. Develops agendas, hosts attendees, and provides adjunct training in conjunction with the customer. Executes world-class training events for the US.
    • Confers with directors, managers and other internal customers regarding performance needs to determine training interventions; based on business plans, strategies, account changes and other factors.
    • In additional to regional responsibilities, will lead educational opportunities at society meetings, trade shows, new hire sales training, and other customer events around the US.

  • Sets a strong foundation for customer independence and program growth.
  • Partners with District Manager, Strategic Program Executives, and Procedure Development Specialists to identify current and future needs related to product and program training for identified customers .
  • General Responsibilities

    • Maintain knowledge of the current industry / competitive landscape, healthcare economics, reimbursement, competitors, and competitive products etc.
    • Interact with Sales, Marketing, R&D, Field Service, Customer Service, and other internal departments.
    • Resolve customer complaints in accordance with Company policy, and advises management promptly of any situation beyond the CES's ability to resolve.
    • Remain current with all vendor credentialing requirements which include immunizations and hospital protocol certification.

    Must Have: Minimum Requirements


    • Bachelors degree required
    • Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in the health care/medical industry

    Lung Health Principal Field Education Specialist

    Offers ideas and participates in preparing training materials, developing course content, determining methodology; and coordinating the development of training aids.


    • Maintains communication with customers to ensure effectiveness of training.
    • May utilize trainers with technical expertise.
    • Continuously revises lesson plans to meet new training requirements and to keep technical information up to date.
    • Delivers and/or manages special projects assigned and works with other stakeholders to achieve desired results.
    • Act as a mentor to colleagues or may direct the work of the lower-level professionals.
    • Manage several aspects of onboarding for new education colleagues.
    • Uses specialized skills specific to role that have been acquired through additional experience, learning and/or advanced education.
