The Associate Director of Wellness & Recreation is charged with providing health and wellness education opportunities for students in order to address long and short-term student health needs through training and coordinating student Wellness Peer Educators, planning and developing health education trainings, programs and workshops, and developing and maintaining written materials for outreach. The Associate Director organizes and conducts health education and behavioral health-risk prevention programs with the goal to improve health knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors. They will also collaborate with campus stakeholders to implement a comprehensive approach to health for students. This position will provide oversight and coordination of preventative programming, as well as hire, train, and supervise student Wellness Peer Educators. The Associate Director will serve as member of the senior leadership within the Department of Wellness and Recreation with expectation to uphold the departmental and University goals and mission as well as the overall goals of CLaSS (Campus Life and Student Success).

• Assist Director with, operational budgets, departmental goals, retreats, marketing and other tasks as requested


• Coordinate the recruitment, training and supervision of the student Wellness Peer Educators and Graduate Assistant. Assists this group in creating and delivering innovative primary prevention programs.


• Manage annual budget planning for approximately $40,000 in general health promotion funds, $5,000 tobacco initiative grant funds, and $100,000 Title IX prevention grant funds, including supervision of a full-time Project Director


• Develop, implement, and evaluate a variety of health promotion programs, events, and initiatives as part of a comprehensive health promotion mission, vision, and prevention strategy, with a particular focus on mental health, sleep, stress, exercise and nutrition, alcohol and other drugs, and sexual health and violence


• Present health education workshops and trainings. Work collaboratively with all campus partners to help implement online applications and tools for the university community


• Use campus and community resources to plan, develop, implement, and evaluate programs and activities that meet the health education and promotion goals for the student community, in a manner that is consistent with professional health education standards, such as the American College Health Association's (ACHA) Standards of Practice for Health Promotion in Higher Education


• Advise Wellness Living Learning Community through coordination with Residential Living and Learning


• Assist Project Director for Domestic Violence Sexual Assault, and Stalking in the management of a comprehensive sexual violence prevention program that focuses on incident response, bystander interventions, and multiple layers of intervention


• Incorporate multicultural diversity, inclusivity, and social justice concepts and principles into health promotion services


• Serves on Divisional and University committees and initiatives as needed


• Perform other duties as requested

Minimum Education: Master's degree

Required Skills

• Establish, maintain, collaborate and work with students, faculty, and staff and to work independently.


• Computer knowledge using graphics and electronic communications are preferred


• Ability to work some nights and weekends

Required Experience

• Master's degree in Public Health, Health Education/Promotion, Wellness, Counseling or related field


• Experience with health and wellness program planning for the college population


• Prefer 2 years of experience in a higher education health promotion/education department


• Public speaking experience

Salary Grade: 6
