Your Role



Reporting to the Head of Strategy, Market Intelligence, and Business Development of BioProcessing, the Head of Business Development, BioProcessing is a critical position in the BioProcessing Strategy group and is now available.


The successful candidate is a seasoned professional with broad experience in Business Development and a proven manager with the ability to establish a vision as well as leading and developing a global team. She/he is able to naturally establish credibility, trust, and respect across the organization and externally, to be seen as true thought partner and to successfully navigate a global matrixed organization. She/he needs to be able to appropriately balance multiple priorities and work against tight timelines. Given the high visibility to senior management, this role presents excellent career advancement opportunities.


The position is flexible on location, with a strong preference for Bedford, MA, USA.


Your responsibilities


  • Establish vision for Business Development team and develop a programmatic, repeatable approach to streamline BD process (required standard deliverables, governance etc)

  • Develop thought leadership through collaboration with Strategy Development and Analytics & Intelligence teams as well as primary, proprietary market work: Become the expert on key trends in the BioProcessing space and relevant adjacent/emerging markets

  • Partner with BioProcessing LT and business owners to define the BioProcessing Inorganic Roadmap and establish aligned long-range view of inorganic activities needed to realize the BioProcessing strategy - this includes all inorganic activities, such as: licensing; technology acquisition, venture investments; partnership/ joint venture; M&A/ divestiture

  • Build and maintain target funnel for BioProcessing and support Life Science M&A roadmap: Oversee cultivation of near to long partnership/licensing targets; for M&A origination, manage and cultivate funnel in close collaboration with and guidance from Life Science BD team

  • Collaborate closely with BD teams across Life Science and the Life Science Global Business Development team to ensure understanding & alignment of inorganic priorities for BioProcessing and effectively advance deals

  • Partner with BioProcessing LT and business/R&D leaders to develop and maintain a Technology Roadmap for BioProcessing aligned with BioProcessing ambition/ strategy and align early stage inorganic technology investment with M Ventures

  • Define and maintain a framework to monitor the relevant IP landscape, identifying 'white-space' and licensing opportunities, highlighting challenges with proposed solutions in a timely fashion

  • Be an inclusive leader effectively managing and building a diverse, multi-cultural and global team, leading with authenticity that inspires the team to communicate openly and thrive together

  • Create purposeful workplace for team members, connecting their individual contributions to the BioProcessing, Process Solutions, Life Science purpose.




Who you are:




Minimum Qualifications:



  • B.A. or B.S. degree (or equivalent) in life science or engineering required



  • BA/BS: 10+ years of professional experience; MS/MBA: 7+ yrs; PhD: 5+ yrs

  • Direct people management experience and proven track record of building and developing successful teams

  • Experience in Business Development (Partnerships, In/out-licensing, M&A) with a focus on building trusted relationships with partners incl direct deal involvement

  • Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated success in a matrixed organization

  • Excellent written, verbal, communication and presentation skills: Ability to effectively articulate complex business issues

  • Demonstrated ability to develop deep domain/industry understanding, based on customer needs, technology trends, and market landscape




Preferred Qualifications:



  • Advanced degree in a quantitative/scientific field (MBA, Masters or PhD) preferred

  • Business Development experience in regulated industries, ideally in healthcare or life science
