WATER PRACTICE

Michael Baker International's Water Group provides innovative consulting, planning and engineering solutions for the entire spectrum of the water cycle. We have proven experience in providing a full range of professional services from scientific and technical analysis, concept through design, and construction support services. Protection and management of water resources starts at the watershed level and follows the movement of water through urban and agricultural areas, streams, lakes and reservoirs, water distribution systems, wastewater collection systems, and water/wastewater treatment plants.

DESCRIPTION

The Statewide Municipal Services / Water Manager plans, directs and coordinates activities across multiple departments in our Virginia Beach, Alexandria and Manassas offices. The position also directs project managers and other team members to execute work involving engineering principals and other related activities. The position will also lead planning, design and construction support on a variety of engineering projects with a focus on water and wastewater pipelines, pump stations, civil engineering, site development, etc.

As a Statewide Manager this is a high-profile leadership position within the Michael Baker International organization and the position is a Subject Matter Expert that can:


  • Prepare design calculations, drawings, and specifications for water and wastewater pipelines and pumping stations.
  • Conduct technical evaluations to support planning and design related to water and wastewater systems.
  • Review of technical memoranda, reports, drawings, specifications, and miscellaneous contract documents.
  • Technical marketing and proposal pursuit during the procurement of key projects as requested.
  • Communicate effectively and coordinate with project teams including other disciplines (cost estimators, GIS, designers, and other engineers).
  • The position will also be responsible for ensuring that financial and personnel goals are achieved across the practice across the state of Virginia so personnel management, profit and loss performance and business development leadership will be required.
  • Experience with DC and Maryland clients a plus.

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Possess a Bachelor's degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering or related engineering field. Master's degree a bonus.
  • Have 15 years+ of increasingly-responsible, professional experience in the study, design, and construction administration of water and wastewater facilities and wastewater conveyance infrastructure (pipelines, force mains, and pump stations).
  • 5 -10 years of staff management / Department Management experience.
  • Successful demonstration of building a municipal services practice with a focus in water engineering.
  • General civil engineering experience is a bonus.
  • A self-starter, versatile and interested in working on a variety of projects supporting the practice.
  • Excellent technical writing and communication skills.
  • Experience designing pumping stations is a plus.
  • Experience in alternative delivery methods such as Design Build a plus.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in organization and presentation of documentation.
  • Registered Professional Engineer in Virginia
  • Computer Skills in Microsoft Suite (Word/Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint)
  • Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3-D a plus.

The salary range for this position is $115,000-$255,000. This will be dependent on the location, experience and expertise of the incoming candidate.
