Position Summary
Within designated authority, assumes responsibility for the collection of moniesowed to the company by insurance companies and individuals as a result of a right of subrogation, or for filing as Applicant Respondent and/or Respondent Counter Applicant in arbitration. Individual may specialize in either subrogation or arbitration.
Duties and Responsibilities
Reviews and evaluates assigned disputed auto liability, small property claims and small workers' compensation claims. Reviews claims files for possible subrogation and determines appropriate action. Refers questionable claims for further investigation or maintains diary on referred files.
Negotiates settlements with other insurance companies, attorneys or directly with the claimant as appropriate.
Prepares and handles claims for inter-company arbitration or for collection through legal proceedings.
Responds to questions from and advises claims adjusters as necessary regarding handling of subrogation claims and coordinates with supervisor. Updates Policyholders, Agents and other company personnel as appropriate.
Documents claim files and prepares files for lawsuits as necessary. Makes recommendations regarding litigation and assists defense counsel with trial preparation for litigated claims involving subrogation. Attends depositions mediations, pretrial, settlement conferences and hearings as required.
Coordinates legal proceedings with assigned subrogation attorneys. Follows up on activities and ensures established deadlines are met. Establishes theories of liability to be used in the course of recoveries on disputed liability claims.
Maintains a list of experts including their specialty, fees, and contact information. Maintains a list of subrogation attorneys including their specialty, fees, and contact information.
Provides guidance to field personnel with regard to complex subrogation investigations.
Complies fully with subrogation workflow.

Qualifications
High school diploma or GED required. Two years of insurance experience required. Previous experience working with liability and/or subrogation claims preferred. Successful completion ofaccredited insurance-related courses,preferred. Certified Subrogation Recovery Professional designation preferred. Appropriate license as required by state.
