Job Description:

This position is primarily remote, but may be required to work onsite at times. Remote work must be performed at an offsite location within the state of Iowa. Successful candidates must comply with requirements of the remote work program and related policies.


Position Summary:


University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics department of Health Care Information Systems is seeking a Senior Systems Administrator to lead in the design, configuration, and support of systems that are part of large intranet configuration along with internet facing web applications. The technologies that will be developed, maintained, and investigated when issues arise are Microsoft SharePoint, SQL, IIS and web farm infrastructure. The monitoring of applications will be vital for performance analytics, providing website statics and evaluate the structure and content of each. This production environment is enterprise-wide and mission critical for the institution and requires 24/7 availability.

Position Qualifications:



Education Required


Bachelor's degree in MIS, Computer Science, or related degree; or an equivalent combination of education and experience in a related field.


Experience Requirements

  • 5 years or more of experience configuring and supporting Microsoft SQL Server administration.
  • 5 years or more of experience configuring and supporting Microsoft IIS
  • Experience configuring and supporting Microsoft SharePoint servers and farms
  • Proficient in programming with a scripting language such as PowerShell
  • Basic knowledge of remote access tools, application configuration and backups, and/or software and operating system patch management.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail with strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to effectively document procedures and instructions.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage large and complex IT projects through staff and resource coordination to achieve organizational specific goals. Must be able to work with different levels of IT knowledge and time management skills will to be utilized.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in Internal and 3rd Party certificate management, System Center Operations Manager, GPOs, DNS, WSUS, Single Sign on\SAML, File and Print Servers.
  • Experience configuring and supporting high availability (HA) solutions such as a hardware load balancing appliance (e.g. F5 BIG-IP) or Microsoft failover clustering service (MCSA)
  • Understanding of networking technologies and use of network capture troubleshooting tools.
  • Familiar with server hardening methodologies and practical implementation experience.
  • Microsoft 365 products and SharePoint migration software like ShareGate.
  • Knowledge of Hybrid, Cloud, and Multi-cloud strategies and governance for such vendors as Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services (AWS).
