Main Objective:

As a Principal UX Designer, you will help shape and execute the vision of Arthrex's software ecosystem. The Principal UX Designer will lead and establish design principles for an in-house design team and work closely with key stakeholders and development to deliver innovative solutions that provide value for our customers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Lead and manage a variety of initiatives across an entire Arthrex ecosystem program.

  • Provide leadership, direction, and mentorship for a group of UX Designers; lead creative and holistic thinking across Arthrex's software ecosystem.

  • UX designer management duties includes:

    • Recruits and hires new designers.

    • Trains designers to improve both hard and soft skillset.

    • Sets annual goals and objectives.

    • Fosters designer growth, career development and provides performance reviews appraisals.



  • Effectively communicate with product teams and key stakeholders to ensure a holistic product vision is realized and delivered to end-customers.

  • Understands customer needs and key business drivers and develops solutions that effectively address both.

  • Build strong relationships with key stakeholders to efficiently implement user experiences that are cohesive, comprehensive and well-informed.

  • Use business requirements, market research and customer feedback to assist in developing scenarios, use cases, and high-level requirements for medical experiences.

  • Develop and maintain design systems, experience principles, patterns, and new standards in execution and operational excellence.

  • Lead design workshops and give presentations to lead the design vision, align design principles, demonstrate features, flows, and prototypes.

  • Evangelizes and advances Arthrex's understanding and adoption of user experience best practices, tools and documentation.

Education and Experience:


  • Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology, Cognitive Science, Human Factors, Human-Computer Interaction, Human-Centered Design, or similar required

  • 10 + years' experience in interaction design required

  • 3 + years' experience working in the medical industry required

  • 3 + years of experience as a lead/senior designer required

  • Experience managing multiple projects and the ability to meet aggressive deadlines required

  • Experience working in an Agile environment required

  • Experience designing products for global markets a plus

Knowledge and Skill Requirements/Specialized Courses and/or Training:


  • Ability to lead and influence other designers, researchers, and developers.

  • Self-driven and independent leader.

  • Strong design thinking, human-centered design skills.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of human factors.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of systems design.

  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.

  • Work effectively within and across teams, with multiple personality types and cultural backgrounds.

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

Machine, Tools, and/or Equipment Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, Axure, Sketch, Principle, and Invision.
