Senior Enterprise Risk Manager
US Remote Eligible
Hybrid or On-site flexibility for applicants in the St. Louis or Tempe, AZ area

The Manager - Enterprise Operational Risk Management is a Second Line of Defense role responsible for the execution of firmwide operational risk management standards and processes, and oversight of First Line of Defense operational risk framework. This role requires the formal assessment of operational risk, evaluation of mitigation strategies and stakeholder guidance.

Opportunity Overview:


  • Reporting to the Director of Operational Risk Management, build, support and execute the enterprise operational risk management framework.

  • Develop, review and maintain operational (non-financial and non-investment, e.g.) risk related policies and procedures, and make recommendations for changes.

  • Collaborate with business, functional and risk colleagues across the enterprise to further develop and strengthen the operational risk governance framework.

  • Facilitate the enterprise risk management policies and programs with process and risk owners in the First Line. This includes, but is not limited to, comprehensive identification, tracking, measurement, mitigation, resolution and reporting of risks, issues and control effectiveness.

  • Provide advice to all functional levels and leaders in the business to continually advocate for a strong risk culture, mindset, and acumen.

  • Execute independent risk assessments as a member of the Second Line of Defense and provide regular reporting to the Enterprise Risk Management group and stakeholders.

  • Review external events and emerging risks to ensure they are considered and managed accordingly by the First Line of Defense.

  • Assist with the development of risk training programs.

  • Assist with risk-related audits and examinations.

  • May provide coaching and guidance to others, either in a Player/Coach, consultant or project manager capacity using subject matter expertise.

  • Maintain knowledge of best practices, trends in the markets and their impact on Edward Jones.

  • Other duties as assigned.

 


  • Bachelor's Degree in relevant field preferred.

  • Certifications in risk management and financial services preferred.  Masters degrees would be a plus depending upon the field of study.

  • 5-7 years relevant prior experience required.

  • Experience in various areas of operational risk, preferably within a financial services organization including, but not limited to the following:  Financial Crimes, Operations, Wealth Management Advice and Services, Finance, Technology, Business Continuation, and Third-Party Vendor Management

  • Regarded as the technical expert in their job discipline within the organization; Requires in-depth and/or breadth of expertise in own job discipline and broad knowledge of other job disciplines within the organization function.

  • Experience with a GRC (Governance Risk Compliance) platform and associated reporting.

  • Ability to evaluate and provide healthy challenge in various areas including controls assessments, issues identification and action plan management in order to mitigate risk issues.

  • Anticipates business and regulatory issues; recommends product, process or service improvements.

  • Evaluates emerging risks or planned changes to business model and considers applicability to business and regulatory risks.

  • Leads projects/programs with notable risk and complexity; develops the strategy for project/program execution; Serves as the thought leader, shaping the framework and/or methodology for a process.

  • Ability to demonstrate strong decision-making skills, but willingness to engage others and escalate issues as prudent.

  • Solves unique problems with broad impact on the business; requires conceptual and innovative thinking to develop solutions.

  • Impacts a range of customer, operational, project or service activities within own team and other related teams; works within broad guidelines and policies; Identify, assess and mitigate moderate to high risks that would impact the area/division.

  • Communicates complex ideas, anticipates potential objections, and influences others, often at senior/General Partner levels, to consider a different point of view.

  • Able to demonstrate independence from the business as it relates to assessments and governance while providing guidance and partnership on areas for improvement.

  • Demonstrate strong relationship-building skills and high levels of engagement with peers, leaders and stakeholders.
