Lab Manager - Intumescent Fireproofing at Carboline in St. Louis, Missouri

JOB DESCRIPTION



Position Summary


Carboline is seeking a Lab Manager for our Intumescent Fireproofing product line. This role is located at our RD&I facility in St. Louis, MO. This person will be in charge of overall technical responsibility, acquisitions of new technologies or ventures of fireproofing. Also support the sales efforts for both the domestic and international sales by making sales calls to key accounts. Must have a minimum of 10 years technical fireproofing.


Requirements


Four (4) year Chemistry degree or equivalent experience, 10-15 years formulating or technical experience in the Fireproofing industry, 1-2 years Supervisory or Management experience.


Preferred Requirements


Master's or other advanced degree preferred in lieu of experience.


Physical Requirements


Lifting up to 50 pounds; exposure to chemicals including but not limited to: Amines, Polyamides, Isocyanates, Epoxies, Alkyds, Acrylics, and certain inorganic compounds. Personal protective equipment would be utilized. Must pass annual respirator medical evaluation and pulmonary function test as required by OSHA.


Job Responsibilities:

• Research and Development of fireproofing products. Part of this will be participating in stage gate process for new product development.
• Supervise and train development chemists and laboratory technicians.
• Be a corporate liaison for all fireproofing testing laboratories i.e.: U.L. F.M., INTERTEK and others as required, Corporate liaison for all code and insurance approvals i.e.: Lloyds of London, DNV and others as required, Corporate liaison for all local fireproofing approvals: City of Los Angeles, City of San Francisco, and other city approvals as required.
• Evaluate and determine if acquisitions or new technologies are what they are represented to be and if they will support our sales efforts.
• Establish and audit toll manufacturers as required and obtain the necessary agency approvals required to maintain the fire ratings.
• Develop and test water based and 100% solids intumescent and cementitious fireproofing technologies.
