This position is responsible for safely and efficiently performing cross-functional duties in plant maintenance, production, and equipment operation. The utility person is responsible for greasing and lubricating plant equipment, maintaining plant housekeeping, operating equipment and performing routine maintenance on plant and equipment. This is a full-time seasonal union position, membership in Local 49 Operating Engineers is mandatory - apprenticeship is available.
Essential Functions
Adhere to MSHA guidelines and plant safety rules and regulations
Performs preventative and routine maintenance on mobile and plant equipment,including cutting and welding under the guidance of the plant manager or other designated personnel
Performs daily pre/post-shift inspections on equipment and maintains maintenance log
Uses a hand shovel and operates a skid steer, front end loader, and other tools to clean around plant equipment and to maintain roadways and parking areas
Operates a water truck to limit airborne dust
Participates in plant operations including production, loading and shipping, andquality control
Maintains good housekeeping in areas of responsibility andsafe traffic flow throughout the site
Operates plant-specific mobile equipment such as excavators and bulldozers in a safe manner as needed
Aides in the training of co-workers as needed

Must hold a valid, unrestricted driver's license
Experience in the building materials industry preferred
Work Environment
This job operates 100% of the time at a surface sand and gravel mine setting.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time seasonal position that regularly requires long hours and weekend work. Travel to various company locations around the Twin Cities Metro Area a must.
