Job Description:

Associate Director, Content Management

College Board - Assessment Delivery Center of Excellence

Reston, New York City, Remote

About the Team

The Content Management, Publications and Productions is responsible for the delivery of operational content and publications in support of the College Readiness Assessment (CRA) suite of assessments. Our team focuses on work that starts with an idea; flows through content development and management, design, and production; and ends with a produced piece ready for delivery to the customer. Our content teams develop and manage content in XML in a CMS as well as through more traditional means. Our total team has 15 members; this position is part of the XML team, which has 6 members.

About the Opportunity

As the Associate Director, you will play a key role in ensuring that content and publications supporting the CRA suite of assessments are developed, reviewed, and published accurately and on time. You will be responsible for supporting operational publications and content produced using XML content authoring and reviewing technologies, and for other projects tied to transforming from print to digital. This is an exciting time for the team as we are currently transforming our systems and processes to "scale up" from a print-focused publishing model to supporting multi-platform publishing. In this role, you'll tap into your love for learning and master new technologies and skillsets around content management systems and information architecture.

In this role, you will support:

  • Providing active and ongoing support to Program peers, anticipating and responding to their needs

  • Acting as a liaison to connect operational and Program/Policy stakeholders for all content updates and changes

  • Maintaining and creating Operations reviewers XML process flows and job aids. Providing training to Operations stakeholders, as necessary, to communicate any new software changes, review process changes, and to reinforce review expectations

  • Assembling and modifying content using DITA XML authoring software in support of small-scale publications

  • Tracking non-XML publication or project/decision dependencies and raising risks when schedules are mis-aligned

  • Monitoring and maintaining Operations metadata in XML files

Communications and Planning (~30%)

  • Contributing to (at times, facilitating) daily stand-ups, sprint grooming sessions, and other Agile ceremonies

  • Providing feedback on XML production schedule, producing status and at-risk reports, supporting issue management

  • Developing and leading information-rich publication cycle kickoffs for publication stakeholders, informing them of upcoming content changes and editorial review information

  • Executing long-term initiatives using Jira to accomplish operational goals by building hierarchies of XML publication work from epics to user stories, and tracking through to completion

  • Performing operational intake assessment and tasks for newly targeted XML publications; documenting operational requirements and processes

  • Entering XML updates to Publication team's SAT and PSAT wiki page and centralized repository of finalized publications

  • Observing CRA and AP Digital Pilots and Operational Administrations, contributing to lessons learned, and defining opportunities for improvement

About You

You have:

  • College degree and/or a combination of at least 4+ years of progressively responsible and related work experience in a publications/content development and production environment

  • Strength in tracking multiple parallel tasks for both large-scale and small-scale projects

  • Ability to prioritize and effectively handle multiple situations simultaneously

  • Structured problem-solving ability; strong analytical thinking, organizational, writing, editing, and proofreading skills

  • An ability to be "in the weeds" while maintaining big-picture mentality, understanding the gravity of seemingly small changes or errors and how what we produce affects testing staff and students taking the CRA Suite of Assessments

  • Demonstrated experience coordinating and leading information gathering and review sessions; ability to work collaboratively with the team as well as independently and to self-manage work

  • Experience with DITA XML and XDOCS CCMS (or other XML content management system)

  • Strong computer literacy, including Microsoft Office, Excel, Project, PowerPoint, Smartsheet, and Jira, and experience with Agile methodologies

  • Once COVID travel restrictions are lifted, if remote, ability to travel 3-5 times a year to our New York City, NY, and Reston, VA, offices, as well as to vendor locations, as needed
