About the Role

We are looking for a skilled Garage Craftsman to maintain and repair vehicles. You will be responsible for troubleshooting issues and fixing them with the result aiming for maximum reliability and functionality. The candidate should have good eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity. He or she should be well-versed in complex mechanical and or electronic systems of vehicles and have excellent problem-solving abilities. The ability to read manuals and technical documents is necessary. He or she must also be a good communicator to provide advice to Monrovia Craftsmen regarding care and upkeep of their vehicles

What You’ll Do


  • You’ll be repairing gasoline powered equipment examples: leaf blowers, pick-ups, vans, medium sized trucks, tractors, and Monrovia vehicle fleet.

  • You’ll Inspecting vehicle engine and mechanical/electrical components to diagnose issues accurately.

  • You’ll be conducting routine maintenance work (replacing fluids, lubricating parts etc.) aiming to vehicle functionality and longevity.

  • You’ll be providing accurate estimates (cost, time, effort) for a repair or maintenance job.

  • You’ll be Disassembling, inspecting, and replaces worn or defective parts.

  • You’ll be keeping logs on work and issues to submit to vehicle record software.

  • You’ll testing repaired equipment for proper operation by test drive or operation of unit before returning to operators.

  • Frequently involves heavy lifting, pulling, or working in awkward positions or lying on back on auto mechanic’s “creeper,” working beneath vehicles.

  • Must be available to work the following schedule: 

    • Monday – Friday: 7:30am to 4pm

    • Saturday: 7:30am – 2:30pm on occasion in Spring/Summer




  • Other duties as assigned to meet departmental requirements.

Who You Are


  • You have proven experience as auto mechanic.

  • Have a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.


  • You have the knowledge of electrical systems, engines, brakes, drivetrain, fuel systems, suspension / steering, hydraulics, and air systems.

  • You have a high school diploma; Certification from a vocational school or completion of apprenticeship is preferred.

  • Valid certification (e.g., ASE) is a definite plus.

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and experience using auto mechanic tools.

  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.

  • You enjoy working in a team environment and being supportive of co-workers.

  • You are able to work in inclement weather conditions, i.e. hot, cold, and rainy.

  • You have strong mechanical aptitude and experience using auto mechanic tools

  • You can take initiative with minimal direction and be flexible regarding the immediate needs of the department

  • You can lift up to 30 pounds repeatedly or 50+ pounds on occasion. 

  • You have full range of mobility in your upper and lower body, can reach overhead and work in various positions including stooping, standing walking, bending over, and squatting; can lift, pull and push materials, use hands and fingers to feel, handle plants or operate objects, tools or controls; are able to use close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus, all with or without a reasonable accommodation.

Desire Skills


  • Punctual and highly organized.

  • Ability to read technical manuals.

  • Bilingual in Spanish and English highly desirable.

COMPENSATION:


  • This is a non-exempt position. Wage is based on the candidate’s experience and qualifications. Monrovia Nursery Company offers a competitive base wage and an excellent benefits package.
