Position Title: Fiber Engineer (T4)

Role


This position is part of the district Break-Fix team. Position requires experience with designing fiber networks and route details and experience with outside plant and inside plant cable construction in aerial and underground facilities. Position also requires the capability to manage multiple construction contractors remotely. From identifying appropriate testing requirements to troubleshooting with techs in the field, this position is part of a dedicated day-team responsible for managing all trouble tickets in Eastern PA, Southern NJ, and Delaware.


Responsibilities



  • Utilize engineering and construction knowledge to repair fiber breaks in the field by troubleshooting OTDR shots and managing contractors remotely.

  • Manage all trouble tickets from during weekdays shift, collaborate with teammates throughout specific shifts.

  • Troubleshoot damaged fiber by working directly with Field Operations and external vendors to restore customer service in under 10 hours Mean Time to Repair (MTTR)

  • Work jointly with the NOC, Field Operations and Change Management to isolate and restore fiber impairments.

  • Analyze OTDR shots to isolate the damage.

  • Update records and GIS-mapping system in real-time while outage is being repaired.

  • Design fiber route and create necessary splicing prints for vendors performing splicing work within an active backbone.

  • Proactively provide robust and timely updates to the NOC throughout an outage so that the NOC can effectively update our customers.

  • Provide customer-obsessed service when managing trouble tickets by escalating to Supervisor accordingly, owning the customer’s experience and suggest creative repair plans to decrease MTTR.

  • Problem solve issues that may occur in the field and manage repair plans based on priority

  • Communicate effectively with teammates, vendors and internal partners.

  • Review invoices for trouble ticket dispatches and ensure as-builts are updated accordingly.

  • Manage permanent repairs projects for areas prone to outages.

  • Understand prevailing rates for all construction work and ensure Crown Castle is receiving competitive rates for quality work.

  • Ensure all work is completed in accordance with Crown Castle construction standards, processes, and procedures.


Education/Certifications



  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Minimum two (2) or more years technical degree or equivalent work experience

  • A valid driver’s license required


 Experience/Minimum Requirements



  • One (1) to three (3) years or more of fiber engineering and construction management experience, one (1) to three (3) years or more of direct telecommunications experience with three (3) years + of supervisory contractor construction experience preferred

  • Knowledge of Outside Plant Construction techniques (aerial & underground) preferred

  • Familiarity with test equipment and techniques for performing OTDR, Optical Power Meter and Passive Intermodulation (PIM) testing preferred

  • Working knowledge of NESC, NEC and OSHA standards preferred

Organizational Relationship


Reports to: Supervisor of Network Construction

Working Conditions: This role falls into our hybrid work model working in your assigned office approximately 60% of the time (3 days per week) and where you do your best work 40% (2 days per week).  There is an expectation of collaboration with teammates and stakeholders for moments that matter that could require travel. Position will require on-call rotation involvement.
