Reporting to the Senior Counsel for Avangrid Networks and the Manager of Claims, this position is responsible for the investigation, evaluation, negotiation and settlement of property damage and personal injury claims filed with Avangrid Network's operating companies in New York, Maine, Massachusetts and Connecticut. The selected candidate must manage claim files through conclusion in a diligent and professional manner, be detail oriented in maintaining file records and documents that have the potential to be used in litigation, and proactive in advising management of high-risk claims, incidents and trends relevant to business operations and risk.
Responsibilities
Responsible for investigating, managing and reporting all aspects of self-insured retained loss claims and potential claims involving automobile liability, general liability, property damage and personal injuries; Negotiates and settles claims in accordance with company policy. Works directly with legal staff and outside counsel on larger claims. Supports other groups, such as customer service and regulatory, on issues relating to customer relations and/or regulatory complaints; Provides analysis and fact-finding to support corporate property and liability claims and incident investigations; Responsible for entering, maintaining and closing records on STARS claims management system; Provides support in responding to PUC/PSC complaints associated with claims; Financial Responsibilities include: Manage spending on outside claims adjusters, Determine fair value for settling claims, Support claims financial reporting on monthly, quarterly and annual basis, Efficiency, Negotiating financial settlements favorable to the company and its customers, Create Revenue Enhancements. Avangrid employees may be assigned a system emergency role and in the event of a system emergency, may be required to work outside of their regular schedule/job duties. This is applicable to employees that will work in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, and New York within AVANGRD Network and Corporate functions.
Skills and Requirements
Education & Experience: Required: Bachelor's or Associates degree and a minimum of three (3) years or more work experience applicable to a corporate legal or Claims Department. Preferred: Bacherlor's or Associate's degree with five (5) years experience working in a law firm, corporate legal department, insurance company or other setting related to the investigation and assessment of property and casualty claims field. Skills/Abilities: Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to actively listen and communicate effectively in writing and orally with all levels of the organization. Ability to establish and maintain collaborative and productive relationships within the organization's Legal Department which manages the Claims Group. Strong organizational and time management skills with a commitment to solving problems on behalf of customers. Proficient computer skills, specifically the Microsoft Office suite and an ability to learn to use claims management database. Ability to negotiate an outcome. A high level of attention to detail, good judgment, analytical ability and decision making is essential. Ability to investigate, analyze and document facts is a must. Results oriented and proactive. Nature of work requires that candidate to adhere to a policy of strict confidentiality.
