Job Description:

Primary Duties & Responsibilities


  • Develop new processes to be implemented into production and train technicians to follow them as a standardized process.
  • Lead and participate in collaborative component, tooling and fixture design processes, from customer requirements, through brainstorming and team-based design iteration and review, through final design preparation.
  • Interface with outside entities, including vendors, resources within II-VI, and customers
  • Interface with internal sales/program management personnel to c oordinate the manufacturing launch of new/revised products including establishing goals, training team members and evaluating results.
  • Provide support to the Purchasing function for qualification of external vendors.
  • Transition successful products into production by working closely with various internal resources (Quality, R&D, other engineers, Operations).
  • Participate in ISO, Six-sigma, Kaizen, FMEA, 6S, and yield enhancement activities.
  • Utilize CAD and CAM software to produce concepts, designs, engineering drawings and CNC programs.
  • Conduct hands-on experimentation, materials processing, advanced equipment operation, microstructure examination, material properties testing, product testing, record keeping and documentation.
  • Provide technical leadership and training to other employees.
  • Apply statistical methods (e.g., SPC) and perform product/process analysis for cost reduction, quality improvement, and improved efficiency.
  • Learn and be able to perform key aspects of the manufacturing process.
  • Design, develop and test and/or source and cost-justify various tools, machinery and equipment for recommended manufacturing methods. Confer with suppliers to establish processing requirements and arrange for purchase of machinery and equipment according to specifications and quality standards.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Education & Experience

  • B.S. degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering
  • Technical writing for standard operating procedures.
  • Experience with machine tools and fixture design.
  • Proficient in CAD/CAM applications.
  • Hands on Experience with CNC machine programming. .
  • Knowledge of advanced ceramic processing and/or metal matrix composite processing techniques.
  • Knowledge of composite materials
  • Experience with problem analysis and resolution
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve results independently or working with others
  • Ability to recommend and implement improvements
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Experience with networked PC based computer system (MS Office, spreadsheets, access, graphics, Email, MRP systems, and accounting software)
