We are seeking a Bioinformatics Scientist to provide services in support of the overall functions of the Laboratory of Bacteriology (LB), Vector-Pathogen-Host Interaction Unit. Rocky Mountain Laboratory (RML).


Responsibilities


• Perform bioinformatics analysis and support using NGS analysis, whole-exome, whole-genome, RNA-seq, ChIP-Seq, both long- and short-read technologies, etc., statistical modeling, scripting, and biological interpretation.
• Address bioinformatics, scientific computing, and data analysis needs of the projects of the lab, by lending expertise in the proper statistical design of biological experiments involving high-throughput genome-scale technologies, data mining and knowledge discovery techniques, automated workflow development, statistical and scientific experimental design.
• Provide bioinformatics support to include somatic and germline variant calling and analysis, single-cell and bulk gene expression analysis, de novo assembly of genomes and transcriptomes, comparative genomics of model and non-model organisms, proteomics, ChIP-seq, ATAC-seq, and the development of high-throughput pipelines for the analysis of the above data modalities.
• Provide statistical support/analysis on research data of the unit.
• Assist with scientific publications in leading peer-reviewed journals.
• Perform general laboratory skills and sample processing for molecular and protein analysis
• Keep up to date with pertinent scientific literature, and write, prepare papers describing experimental findings in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
• Deliver oral presentations and effectively communicate with senior colleagues and collaborators. Attend and participate in seminars, conferences, weekly lab and group meetings.


Qualifications


o Master's or Ph.D. in a related field is required.
o Minimum of three years of experience in bioinformatics is required.
o Experience working in a laboratory setting.
o Expertise with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.)
o Experience in R, Python, and other programming languages preferred.
o Ability to write, submit and publish papers describing research in peer-reviewed journals.
o Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with intramural and extramural colleagues.
