About you

The Global Inspection Leader, aligning to the TES Quality Expertise Center, is accountable to ensure defect free equipment delivery in support of $5B+ annual in capital and expense spending.

This role leads, develops, implements, and optimizes the external shop inspection quality management system and work process in alignment with TES Quality Strategy globally. Monitors effectiveness of the system, addresses complex issues, and preserves and creates value via risk mitigation. Serves as inspection discipline subject matter expert, providing training, coaching, and overall guidance to enhance knowledge and accountability for quality system management across key roles and promotes and enables a quality-focused culture globally. Champions and leads strategic cross-functional quality improvement projects in the area of inspection and is accountable for all change management activities related to use of the quality management system across the identified scope. Requires specialized depth and breadth of expertise within the job discipline.

Also, you can complete each of the following tasks:


  • Accountable for developing and implementing a global inspection strategy for Dow spanning TES Engineering, Maintenance and Turnarounds.  This includes ensuring the right resourcing and expertise to execute the 3 year capital project spend plan.


  • Functionally lead the Dow External Shop Inspection team. Act as Subject Matter Expert in the application of design codes for inspection of fabricated and mechanical equipment.


  • Accountable for developing and implementing a vendor shop quality assurance strategy.


  • Provide oversight of 3rd party inspectors who provide quality assurance on behalf of Dow to ensure Dow quality requirements are met. Additionally, work with purchasing to evaluate 3rd party inspection agencies who could provide expertise in locations which require additional support or are challenged to find quality inspection services.



  • Escalation-point for conflict resolution.  Will work closely with regional inspection leads, purchasing, and others as needed to resolve dispute, or address quality assurance gaps.


  • Work effectively with a diverse cross-functional organization (Purchasing, Maintenance, Technology Centers, Operations, Engineering, Suppliers, etc.) to develop, implement, and continually improve quality operating discipline, Most Effective Technology, best practices, tools, and work processes to ensure quality equipment and bulk materials are delivered to Dow.


  • Ensure proper education and use of Inspection services for all orders including, but not limited to, Global Capital Procurement (GCP), MRO, and Procure to Pay (PtP).


  • In collaboration with the Dow inspection team, develop and drive improvement plans annually.


  • Develop, implement, and maintain Quality KPIs in the area of equipment inspection. Analyzes performance metrics/measurements to identify and set a prioritized strategy to address systematic issues and lead improvement opportunities for value creation and risk mitigation.



  • Assures Unplanned event problem-solving efforts are executed through the Root Cause Investigation Process, to effectively address quality opportunities for value creation and risk mitigation.


  • Involvement in industry networks (ASME, etc.) to ensure Dow remains connected to industry standards and best practices.


  • Identifies gaps, leads development of and conducts training for and mentoring of key roles cross-functionally on the effective use of the inspection quality management system and related work processes.


Required qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Metallurgy  or relevant military experience at or above a U.S. E6 ranking OR Canadian Petty Officer 2nd Class ranking


  • 5+ years of experience with NDE, fabrication, and inspection activities for chemical, refinery, powerplant, gas, oil, and other related industrial fields


  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills


  • Must be willing and able to meet all applicable requirements related to business travel (e.g., as to immigration and visa rules, public-health mandates, airline rules, etc.) into and out of (and physical presence in) various countries world wide


  • Essential functions of this position may require, among other things, that the employee use particular types of equipment -- such as on-site safety equipment that has specific weight limitations whereby the individual's own weight, plus the weight of tools and other items and materials, must not exceed a certain threshold. (For example, some types of safety equipment may be rated for a maximum weight limit of 300 pounds total.) Your preferred qualifications include:


  • Extensive experience with metallic fabrication of PCE and piping to the applicable design Codes, Experience with rotating equipment is an asset. 


  • Holds multiple of the following certifications or willing to acquire them on a short term: AWS-CWI, API-510, API-570, API-653 or ASNT SNT-TC-1A Level II 


  • Knowledgeable in EMETL inspection and engineering practices 


  • Knowledgeable of fabrication inspection at supplier shops 



  • Well-versed in ASME Codes and standards applicable to metallic PCE and piping fabrication and inspection 


  • Well-versed in Project Execution Methodology


  • Experienced in developing inspection related work processes

  • The preferred location for this role is the U.S. Gulf Coast Region, however, other locations globally will be considered.
